.. They are just having a book swap instead.
It's seems very boring to not do it and makes me think it's not a very creative school. Dressing up seems such a great way to get children really thinking about books.
In fact we've been at the nursery since september and the only thing they've done so far is have crappy cake sales (which incidentally is what they are doing for Comic Relief -dull!!)
Anyone else feeling left out?

Don't think my kids' nursery are doing anything (if they are I haven't seen a notice or an email) and whilst I feel a bit miffed, other posts on here about endless dressing up days at school make me pretty confident that there will be MANY years of this to come yet!

I am a teacher and my school doesn't do it which is a shame :(.

I did ask if we could do it and was told no!

YABU
Schools can't win, dammed if they do dammed if they don't.
Both takes on world book day have merit and encourage children to read and enjoy books. In fact your school's event encourages children to read something new and spread their literary wings!

As for cake sales etc, same thing, can't do right for doing wrong. It is the schools job to educate our children not think of fundraising ideas be that for themselves or charity, that's why most schools have a PTA or similar, if you feel your school could do more and be more creative, join the PTA and get stuck in!

Mine are grown up now but it would have made my decade if the school had foregone the awful dressing up stuff just one year. Complete pain for clueless non-sewer like me.

Sneepy · 05/03/2013 22:14

Are you sure they aren't? I just got the note yesterday that "children are welcome to dress up!!" and have spent today knocking together 4 costumes ready for Friday.

YABVVVVVU be grateful they dont have to dress up, this is getting tedious in schools!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/03/2013 22:19

YABVU.

For every parent who feels like you, bet there are 10 who feel relieved!

The theory is great the reality a pita Grin I have a hobbit and a worst witch to sort by Thursday! Assuming they don't change their mind Wink

OOAOML · 05/03/2013 22:24

I don't see the point in dressing up and nothing else, a book swap sounds much more in keeping with the spirit of World Book Day to me. Or the children doing a show and tell about their favourite book?

claudib · 05/03/2013 23:51

Ok i guess Being new to the whole school thing i'm probably going to be more enthusiastic about it. I love the dressing up thing but i know not everyone finds it easy.
And I will get with the PTA when my daughter gets her reception place in school next year but sorry I think cake sales is very unimaginative and would rather they did something active as well as cakes!
Judging by the books available at the school fete (just books, crappy plastic tat toys and yes, a cake sale!) I don't think it will be inspiring, I mean one of the books I saw on sale was a Bleedin biography on Myra Hindley!!!
