To think that people should not judge!

So we were out shopping today. My two year old was in naughty mode and kept running off (he is usually and angel bit was in a mischievous mood). My mum went to grab him on one occasion and he tripped over her foot. He ended up sprawled on the floor, not hurt or bothered in any way. My mum nearly fell over with him, and then picked him up and dusted him off. She then explained that he wasn't to run off because it was dangerous, he might get run over by a trolley. While she was doing this, I was approaching them with the stroller. I saw a woman in her 60s at a guess giving my mum the most evil stare. She then turned to her husband and said 'what a way to treat your kid'. I was like WTAF?! I turned and asked her would she rather he be hit by a trolley? I was so pissed off. I can't believe people feel they can judge how a child is treated within 30 secs of a minor incident happening. My DS was not crying, he wasn't bothered in the slightest. He isn't mistreated, if anything he's spoilt rotten. I was really pissed and upset. How would you ladies have dealt with this horrible woman? I know I should probably just forget about it, but she made me feel so shit.

Just ignore it and try to forget about it. I know it's annoying but it's none of this woman's business anyway, it's not like you or your mum were beating him or something! She shouldn't be so quick to judge but there's nothing you can do about people like that, unfortunately. Kids act up sometimes and the situation can become quite dangerous in busy places if you don't take control swiftly - you and your mum were doing a good job.

Firstly I don't think you can say your two year old was being naughty if you were out shopping... It's boring as hell for them.

And secondly... Yes, she was an old witch, no she shouldn't have said anything, but you can understand why she would draw that kind of conclusion. Everyone judges, it's part of the human condition, so you're unreasonable in expecting it not to happen. You're not unreasonable in expecting her not to say something, though.

I know, it's so bloody trivial isn't it. I just felt so shitty that she thought my mum was being nasty to my DS. Sigh. I'm off to get a glass if wine and chill out. No point letting something so small bother me! Thanks for the replies ladies Smile

Have a large glass from me. Wine

They were being cows. I once got asked if I had a 'naughty step' at home for ds (3) clinging to my top 3 yds behind me in the supermarket screaming at the top of his voice while I tried to shop with dt's who were teeny babies at the time. (I loved that top, it was ruined. Sigh)

I somehow managed to resist the urge to punch her lights out.

I would have been temped to say " actually I'm his mother, what's the problem?"
