I just completely don't get this whole idea.

Some idiot person for the 1st ever book day thought it would be good for the kids to dress up as a character from a book for the day. And now every kid in every primary school has to do it every year.

WHY???

What are they learning about books and reading? It's just a nightmare for the parents and has no benefit to learning.

Luckily my kids have left school and DH has to deal with DSD's on these ridiculous dress-up days. I would make a strong protest if I actually had to find a badger costume.

Or any other costume.

It's complete madness.

Well, that sounds a bit more hopeful on the badger front but I feel your pain. Over the next four weeks we've got: World Book Day (dressing-up); Comic Relief Day (dressing-up - details as yet unspecified grr and bake a comic relief themed cake (adults) and make comic relief themed biscuits (children)); Decorate an egg completition; Decorate an Easter Hat competition. I hate this half-term.

And wtf is a fucking comic relief themed cake ffs? A cake that looks like Lenny Henry?

Queen that costume sounds great and you can reuse it next year by adding a bag labelled "swag" and going as burglar bill. I haven't yet checked the wiki page but I'm sure there may even be a badger burglar, something like a cat burglar but more lumbering.

Think yourselves lucky. I hadn't heard anything about WBD and thought that ds wouldn't need to dress up. I checked all my emails/school newsletters and there was nothing so I put a casual note in his home/school book on monday morning 'just in case' (thinking I had until thurs anyway). Note back monday evening "Oops sorry, should have told you we are doing it tomorrow (tuesday), our class has chosen The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Arggh!
Well by a stroke of luck about the only top ds has that hasn't got Spongebob or similar on happens to be orange and brown stripes but I didn't have anything else in the house in tiger colours (who has orange stuff in their house, let alone stuff they don't mind 'adapting'?). All I could find was some orange and brown oddments of wool so I was up until 2am knitting a tiger hat!
Apparently Red Nose Day is going to be an 80s theme . Ds wasn't alive then so he isn't going to have a clue.

DS's school is just asking children to dress as a book character.

DS, aged 9, has decided he is going dressed as a schoolboy in uniform, as a) there are plenty of schoolboys in books and b) he can't be bothered

He plans to take his 50p charity donation in regardless.

This is all from him, no prompting whatever on my part as I had simply asked him what he wanted to dress up as.

Sometimes I am sad that my DS is an adult - but not when I read about all this sodding about with costumes. Fancy dress parties were bad enough.

We have black trousers, a grey/black stripey top, and a fake fur grey gilet thing, all from the local hospice shop for under a fiver.

They'd better have a cocking badger bit part in every nativity for the next few years as I am all costumed out now.

Oh shit. I've forgotten....... AGAIN . Last year My two DS's reminded me during breakfast so it was a 'Boy in the striped pyjamas' and ( this one was a very long shot but he did get a Banksy book for Xmas ) so ds2 went with baseball cap & empty deodorant tin with a question mark on t shirt as to his identity! Must find those striped pyjamas........ Again.
