To not trust internet links

316b · 04/03/2013 18:33

So recently my DH sent me an email with a link to a holiday website that he wanted me to look at. I as a rule do not click on links as you never know what its too, one time my DS clicked a seemingly innocent link that was an internet virus!! So I've previous reasons to be concerned.

Now I know I should have probably been able to trust a link from my DH but its an automatic reaction so I just didn't click it automatically. This led to an argument with my DH when I got home both because he felt that I didn't trust him but also he felt this was holding me back in my day to day life. I just think its always important to remain vigilant on the internet. But am I being overly vigilant?

YANBU. It is always best to be safe than sorry. Some of these internet/telephone scams anviruses etc... are getting increasingly sophisticated. And in what way does not clicking on a link hold you back in life? Seems like a bizarre thing to say.

Thank you

@euphemia yes it was only a link, that what sent up the mental red flag!!

@crinkle he says that if I don't become more trusting then I will be holding myself back from opportunities

I totally agree with you OP, I NEVER just click on a link!!! It could be anything!!! You never know these days, do you? I really wish people would just take the time to either copy & paste the relevant text into the email or save a screenshot and send it as an attachment - it only takes a minute.

lol j/k

YABU. It is pretty obvious when someone's email has been "hacked," you receive emails that are obviously not from a real person, and link addresses that look suspicious.

On the other hand - if you are really not good with the internet, then perhaps you are doing the right thing.

YAB a bit U.

Plenty of links are perfectly okay, much more than are spam or damaging to your computer.

How did you know your husband's account wasn't hacked? Well, I presume you actually read the email and it said something like:

Hi

Here's that holiday we were talking about last night. Link

Love

Your husband

Hmm

If your pc security, firewalls, etc are good, then you'll be prompted as to whether a link is dodgy looking or not.

Saying that... I'm a bit of a linkaphobe too.
