50p? 50P??? Is that all I'm worth?

A friend alerted me to the fact that a copy of my second novel is up on Ebay. For 50p. It's a signed copy, as well. WIBU to bid for it purely so I can hunt the seller down and slap the ungrateful bastard?

50p. Bastard. S/he will regret it when the new novel is out and selling billions of copies and pissing all over EL James and everyone is gagging to pay vast amounts of money for my shopping list...

Solid if jt ks that old then 50p is probably more than it sold for when it was new Grin

starfishmummy · 02/03/2013 23:18

If it is.....

Toadinthehole · 02/03/2013 23:26

It means you're nearly as good as Tolstoy.

My copy of War and Peace cost me 99p new.

SolidGoldBrass · 02/03/2013 23:32

It went for about a fiver when it was new. I remember going into bookshops, seeking it out and quietly putting it on top of rival author's works. And counting the copies each time to see if any had been sold...

Oooh - are you Josie Lloyd or Claudia whatshername or Susan Oudot???

ginmakesitallok · 02/03/2013 23:45

DP has a book out at the minute, I have become obsessed with monitoring it's Amazon rating. I understand your pain.

ginmakesitallok · 02/03/2013 23:46

4995 at the minute. Was 3665 earlier....

breatheslowly · 02/03/2013 23:48

Do authors sign piles of books to make sure the shop can't return them, or did I imagine being told that? Obviously not inyourcase SGB.

OkayHazel · 03/03/2013 01:10

I would love sneaking into bookshops to sign my own book whilst it's still on the shelf! Author John Green is notorious for this! Did you ever do this OP?

kittythames · 03/03/2013 05:39

Oh dear! YANBU

Haven't you already been paid when they bought it full price? You should sue her for selling it and profiteering from you without your permission. lol

Lueji · 03/03/2013 06:52

You could try dying.
It would raise the price very quickly. Wink

Eastpoint · 03/03/2013 08:07

Bump

GlaikitFizzog · 03/03/2013 08:15

Ok there are only 4 books on at 50p, only 2 of them Are signed. One is a biography and you say it's a novel, so by my powers of deduction, I know who you are!!!

nannynick · 03/03/2013 08:19

I wonder what the royalty payment on the initial sale was - guess no where near the retail price.

Authors get zero from second hand sales, guess there is nothing that can be done about that. Suppose it's better than the book being pulped and used to make a cardboard box.

SPBInDisguise · 03/03/2013 08:20

there are hundreds of books on at 50p - I thought that sounded a bit odd!

SPBInDisguise · 03/03/2013 08:20

OP are you Mary Roach who wrote Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers?

:o

GlaikitFizzog · 03/03/2013 08:23

Yes but if you add signed to the search. I may be way of though as a google of the author reveals she has a whole series of books.

SPBInDisguise · 03/03/2013 08:24

But you made me log on to ebay to find I'd won my little lego cave woman complete with club :o

RedHotRudieParts · 03/03/2013 10:17

Aha ! Found the bugger !

SolidGoldBrass · 03/03/2013 10:21

Glaikit, hah, you are WRONG as I have not written a series Grin. SPB, not Mary Roach either, though I have read her other book and it's fascinating.

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 03/03/2013 10:22

Redhot, that one isn't signed by the author though according to the description. And unless Sgb is jermaine Jackson or a madonna impersonator it not that one!!

I want to know!!!!!! I'll buy it from legitimate source if you tell us!

SPBInDisguise · 03/03/2013 10:24

OK then I can only assume you are William Shakespeare, as my 50p books search brought up a load of those. I knew he was a woman.

Hang on a minute - this was in my "signed" search - WHO are these books signed by, exactly??

I officially give up - I'd be a dreadful stalker :o I do want to know who has signed Midsummer Night's Dream, that's on ebay for 50p though!

ReluctantBeing · 03/03/2013 10:28

I'll pay £1.53. Let us know who you are and we can bid!
