How big are your homes and how much does your cleaner do?

YABU: with cleaner's what?

MummytoKatie · 02/03/2013 19:13

Large 4 bedroom.

3 hours a week. In that time she hovers the house, cleans both bathrooms and cloakroom, cleans kitchen / utility room, dusts, mops kitchen floor. This usually takes about 2.5 hours so then an extra job as well. (Often hanging up a load of dd's clothes.)

CookieLady · 02/03/2013 19:17

3 bedrooms.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 02/03/2013 19:20

I don't have a cleaner, but I am a cleaner.

I clean two bedroom homes in about two hours. A 3/4 bedroom home can be three hours. If a home had four bedrooms, three baths, a large kitchen, two receptions, and pets, I guess we'd be looking at four hours.

I do what the client wants me to do, but that's almost always:

Clean the kitchen exterior surfaces (plus inside microwave)
Clean the bathrooms, making everything lovely and shiney
Dust the rest of the house
Hoover the house
Damp-mop hard floors. High-traffic areas cleaned by hand (scrub brush, microfibre, whatever is appropriate to the type of floor.)

That's typical of regular cleaning. Some other things get done once in a while, such as cleaning the woodwork around doors or using a brush to get dust out of radiators. Furniture that can be moved without hurting my back or scratching the floor will be moved for hoovering.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 02/03/2013 19:22

I forgot to add: I empty rubbish bins if I can reach the outdoor bins and I change bed linen if they lay out fresh linens for me. I don't do ironing, because it's not something I'm good at, but other cleaners may. I don't really "tidy" because I don't know where people's stuff goes. If there is stuff on a surface, I just shift it side-to-side to clean around and under it.

bonzo77 · 02/03/2013 19:23

3 bedroom Victorian terrace. Kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Vac / mop throughout house. Dusting. Change 2 beds. Other stuff on rotation: cupboard fronts, banisters, fridge, inside windows. No ironing. 3 hrs a week.

wonkylegs · 02/03/2013 19:23

Big Victorian terrace house. Cleaner does all of kitchen, utility - floor only, hall - wooden floors + 2 flights of stairs, downstairs loo, dining room, lounge, 2 bedrooms everything, 1 bedroom hoovers only & everything in main bathroom.
There are other rooms which we don't get her to touch.

CookieLady · 02/03/2013 19:24

Sorry posted too soon. Doh!

3 hours. She thoroughly cleans bathroom and kitchen. Hoovers lounge, hall, stairs, kitchen and bedrooms. Mops two bedrooms, hall, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. Cleans porch. Dust and polishes in the bedrooms and lounge. Wipes skirting boards. Takes out recycling and rubbish. It takes her 2.5 hours and then irons for the remainder. Oh and sometimes tidies my little one's bedroom if I've forgotten to do so.

fortifiedwithtea · 02/03/2013 19:27

A normal sized 3 bed house. We have a pact she doesn't do ovens and I won't ask her to clean the loo. We work together for 2 hours a week on my house she found this odd at first, I'm her only client that's ever done this.

I have epilepsy and depression and a cleaner just helps me keep on top of things.

cleofatra · 02/03/2013 19:29

5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms.......3 hrs a week with floors and bathrooms generally.

MonaLotte · 02/03/2013 19:32

How rude Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Hmm

FoxSake · 02/03/2013 19:34

Victorian 4 bed takes 2 of them 1.5 so I pay for 3 iyswim house done really well but they only just get it finished. All floors, windows, kitchen and bathroom, everywhere dusted. Old cleaner, 3 hours a lick and a promise, just.

crashdoll · 02/03/2013 19:36

Grammar police - always giving helpful input! Hmm

Smallish 3 bedroom house - have a physical disability, she is a saint!

maras2 · 02/03/2013 19:36

Alliwant.Go to pedants corner and mingle with other weirdos.

Knowsabitabouteducation · 02/03/2013 19:38

5 bedrooms, three bathrooms.

They (2 of them) come twice a week and do kitchen and bathrooms both days. Then one day they will dust and vacuum downstairs, and the other upstairs.

ImperialBlether · 02/03/2013 19:39

I want a cleaner! Hard to justify when I live alone, though.

VenusRising · 02/03/2013 19:45

Oh now, play nice with the comma police.
I have to admit I also noticed it: it's not a crime to comment.

I used to be a cleaner to make money for my college fees, and I would take three hours to dust, hoover and clean bathrooms and kitchen of a three bed.
Two beds that were neat and tidy with two ensuites would take two hours.

I specialised in cleaning before new clients / owners/ tenants moved in. Christ, but sometimes it would take three of us all day to shift the grime.

My current home takes two hours to sort out, wet dusting including the window / door frames, hovering, cleaning and changing the beds.
My DH tackles the oven and other really grungy jobs.

VenusRising · 02/03/2013 19:46

Hoovering includes hovering with intent with the vacuum, obv. Grin

MammaTJ · 02/03/2013 19:50

fortifiedwithtea that is what I would do if I could afford a cleaner. I am a control freak with a lazy streak. Grin

NumericalMum · 02/03/2013 19:55

5 hours here - but house is on 4 levels with 3 bathrooms. The bathrooms and kitchen take about 3 of those hours. 2 bed changes. Tidying, hoovering (but all wood floors) and washing floors. I used to clean up first but now I just don't have the time anymore!!

happyfrogger · 02/03/2013 19:55

2 bed, 2 bathroom flat. 3 hours per week, including ironing.

Bowlersarm · 02/03/2013 19:58

5 bed cottage. Dusting hoovering bathrooms ironing. I never ask her to do anything just trust her to do what she thinks. 5 hours per week

Squitten · 02/03/2013 20:00

4 bedrooms (only 2 used as bedrooms), cleaner comes once a fortnight for 3hrs.

Upstairs: she cleans the bathroom, dusts all the rooms, hoovers and mops all floors, changes any beds if I ask (rare)
Downstairs: cleans and dusts lounge, kitchen and toilet, washes any dishes, hoovers and mops all floors, cleans fridge and microwave in the garage (if time)

My MIL introduced paid for a load of sessions with our cleaner as a baby gift with DS2. Best baby present EVER

cathers · 02/03/2013 20:09

4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms.
Our lovely cleaner Hoovers throughout, dusts surfaces and skirting, all bathrooms cleaned, floors mopped, kitchen surfaces, cupboard doors, appliances and lounge and dining room. Takes her 3 hours.

Butkin · 02/03/2013 20:33

We only have an ironing lady. However my old cleaner cleans for my mum in my old flat. Two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, lounge and patio. 2 hours a week for 20 quid.
