So he doesn't par boil roast potatoes?

My DH always par boils the potatoes before roasting. Your DH is definitely BU.
He might as well use Aunt Bessies if that's his attitude!!!

FlorenceMattell · 02/03/2013 16:30

Thanks mumsnetters tbh am being a bit lazy as not working today, so offered to help now.

nickelbabe I've never tried doing roast potatoes without parboiling them first. How long do they take to roast?

Theicingontop · 02/03/2013 16:36

Don't they go all hard in the middle, and rubbery on the outside?

BelleEtLaBaby · 02/03/2013 16:36

Did anyone see the chef on Great British Menu this week making roast potatoes?

Parboiled them, then fluffed them in a colander one at a time

They looked incredible. I wanted to marry him :)

Foggles · 02/03/2013 16:37

I am doing roast potatoes for tea tonight but don't think I will be fluffing them one at a time Grin

malteserzz · 02/03/2013 16:38

If he's making it he can do it how he likes mind you I buy frozen ones !

MammaTJ · 02/03/2013 16:40

I cover mine in water in a plastic bowl and do them in the microwave for 10 minutes.

LadyBeagleEyes · 02/03/2013 16:41

Surely it's a crime to make roast potatoes without parboiling them first.

LayMizzRarb · 02/03/2013 17:49

Parboil, then put it a bowl and sprinkle on pre mixed 'crunchy dust' : flour, mustard powder, salt, an oxo cube, some sesame seeds. Toss the taters, then put in hot fat. Yum.

Chandon · 02/03/2013 17:56

If you have nice firm, waxy potatoes, they roast very nicely, raw, in olive oil. Raw they absorb a lot less fat.

You are all cholesterol adicts!

Loshad · 02/03/2013 17:57

yes Chandon, a fellow believer. No to parboiling.

squeakytoy · 02/03/2013 17:59

If your fat is hot enough it will seal around the potatoes, not soak into them, parboiled or not.

I would always parboil, then drain, sprinkle with flour salt and pepper, bash them about in the pan with the lid on, then put into hot oil.. (dripping/lard)

whateveritakes · 02/03/2013 18:02

Actually out of time constraints I once had to throw the potatoes in with the beef without par boiling (as I normally do). they had longer at a lower temperature than normal but were ....stunning. Crispy, tasty in all the beef fat and just the best.

youfhearted · 02/03/2013 18:05

my roast potatoes, parboiled, and shaken in the pan, are great round a chicken, take chicken out, turn upp heat, wonderful, but just not the same around a roast pork,
why is that?

SkinnybitchWannabe · 02/03/2013 18:09

If you like Marmite add about half a teaspoon after parboiling..very very nice

ChristmasJubilee · 02/03/2013 18:11

I always use Auntie Bessie's!
