Kyrptonite · 01/03/2013 16:31

YANBU. It makes me think of the Kardashian's for some reason.

fromparistoberlin · 01/03/2013 16:32

its baby mama no?

fromparistoberlin · 01/03/2013 16:33

A baby mama (also baby-mama and baby-mother) is generally defined as a mother who is not married to her child's father,

MyLittleMiracles · 01/03/2013 16:33

I have loads of times its used as in "my baby mum" as in my son/daughters mother. Yep i also have a name of my own btw!!!!!!! ie miracles mum, grrr, i have my own name!!!

squeakytoy · 01/03/2013 16:36

baby daddy is equally as vomit inducing

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 01/03/2013 16:36

YANBU

It is a vile, vile phrase. For some reason I automatically assume that anyone using such phrases is in a very casual relationship but has for some reason decided to have a child. It is trampy.

MrsHelsBels74 · 01/03/2013 16:39

Yes baby daddy is horrid too but I'd just heard baby mama when it struck me how awful it is!

twofaceshenanigans · 01/03/2013 16:41

This was said on Jezza this afternoon. Made me cringe

WomanCalledAlice · 01/03/2013 16:44

I've only heard it said by Americans. I don't like it.

MrsHelsBels74 · 01/03/2013 16:45

Twofaced, I was too ashamed to admit that's where I heard it! Although I think he said baby mum. And I honestly couldn't think how to spell mama, hence using mumma Grin

Mama as in "baby mama drama"

thefirstmrsrochester · 01/03/2013 16:55

Akibabaandthe40nappies you are not wrong there. Horrible phrase.

nahla321 · 01/03/2013 16:55

Yes it is baby mama it is usually used by a father referring to a lady he has a child with but is not in a relationship with as with baby daddy.

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 17:02

babay fatha is worse.

TheCountessOlenska · 01/03/2013 17:17

I think it's from Black American "gang" culture? I've only heard it because I'm obsessed with The Wire at the moment - it's what the drug dealers/gangsters say about the mother's of their children.

I would assume anyone who said it in the UK was being ironic, but then I don't watch Jeremy Kyle Grin

mrsjay · 01/03/2013 17:19

I hear it on Maury chat show and sometimes britflicks or programmes never actually hear it said out loud though, people can say I suppose their is worse things you could call a mother of a baby. would the posh version be baby Ma ma Wink

Theicingontop · 01/03/2013 17:22

Ooh I love The Wire.

Yes it's awful. Very American. Americanisms in British accents make me cringe.

timidviper · 01/03/2013 17:22

It is vile and akin to calling a baby a bubba.

Midori1999 · 01/03/2013 17:26

I think the phrase 'baby mother' is from Jamaican culture.

OkayHazel · 01/03/2013 17:29

18 years, 18 years, had one of yo' kids, got you for 18 years.

nahla321 · 01/03/2013 17:40

TheCountessOlenska · 01/03/2013 17:41

mrsjay · 01/03/2013 18:08

oh I now have Jamie Foxx singing in my head Grin

AmberLeaf · 02/03/2013 02:51

Babymother/babyfather commonly used in jamaican culture to describe someone you have a child with but are not married to, it doesn't necessarily mean someone you aren't in a relationship with them at all. it just means not married to.
