You'll also not get 30mg codeine over the counter in the uk either. That's prescription only strength.
Just what i said.

kali110 · 15/06/2017 10:30

Was wondering where all these chemists were that sound 30mg of codeine!

Oblomov17 · 15/06/2017 10:37

watching with interest. I don't know why I buy them. I take them rarely, but when I do, I want the strongest I can get.

Which is the strongest, you can buy? Paracetemol on its own seems to do nothing for me. So I take an anadin and a nurofen together.

What I really want is diclofenac, Grinwhich they gave me after both my cs's and I liked that the most.

Oblomov17 · 15/06/2017 10:39

oh and I have tried many others. boots. Tesco. I find them, hard to swallow, not as well coated, or bigger, and totally non effective. so I resort back to my old trusty faithfuls, the old branded. Is it pointless to buy branded?

littlemissangrypants · 15/06/2017 10:50

Not quite father in law used to work in medicines safety. He buys branded medication. Unbranded is as safe and as strong but he always says that drugs companies only make money while they have patents. Once they run out generic forms of the medication come out and the original company makes nothing more from it as people switch to the cheaper alternative.
The companies have a limited time to make money from each medicine and of course many medicines don't make it out of trials. We want and need drugs companies to fund research and new drugs.
They make huge amounts of money of course but they also take huge risks. Father in law said that when he still worked almost half of all medicines never made it to market or ended up being used to treat something else. He always gives the example of viagara which was originally intended to treat asthma.

OwlsinTowls · 15/06/2017 11:42

I am a 16per.

My OH is a brand-snob who turns his nose up at own-brand/cheap-and-cheerful products.

We couldn't be more different in that regard. I have to do sneaky Lidl shops behind his back

whyohwhydoibother · 15/06/2017 12:26

littlemissangrypants Viagra was developed to treat Pulmonary Hypertension, not asthma, and aimed initially at teeny babies, it's only when they expanded its use to slightly less teeny men, that they noticed the interesting side effects...

blueskyquacking · 15/06/2017 12:54

I buy branded ones if I'm doubled over with period pain and can't get further than the corner shop that doesn't sell generic ibuprofen lysine.

Ilovecoleslaw · 15/06/2017 12:59

It depends what mood I'm in. Neurofen is 10x easier to swallow for me because they're smaller than other ibroprofen and they're sugar coated so they're really easy to swallow. Whereas if i try the other makes that aren't coated i gag like crazy cause of the taste and freak out. Same with paracetamol, haven't found one i like that's easy to swallow.

RahRahSkirt · 15/06/2017 13:03

I always bought Nurofen Plus until the lady in boots told me that their generic ibuprofen/codeine is exactly the same and lots cheaper. It’s identical. It’s All i buy now for myself, but my OH still wants the “real” Nurofen Plus cause he’s so set in his ways. Ridiculous.

Squarerouteofsquirrel · 15/06/2017 13:07

I buy anadin because they do paracetamol and aspirin together in one of their products, that mixture works for me on my headaches/migraines. Paracetamol or aspirin ALONE doesnt work.

I used to buy Asda own brand equivalent, but they stopped selling it, so now have to buy Anadin. If anyone knows of similar unbranded cheaper products, then I'm all ears.

Does my head in a bit when people offer me their 16p paracetamols and I have to decline politely, sometimes I explain the above and they look at me as if I have either delusions of grandeur, or as if I'm a bit gullible and dense as your op is suggesting.

littlemissangrypants · 15/06/2017 13:13

whyohwhydoibother I knew it was something along those lines. Frankly I don't get half of what not quite father in law says. Scary clever man and very interesting to listen to. He still gives lectures now. He has an interesting view point on things so I try my best to listen even if I don't totally get everything he says.

NannyR · 15/06/2017 13:16

squareroute I buy generic paracetamol/aspirin/caffeine tablets that are the same as anadin extra. Boots and Morrison's sell them.

Squarerouteofsquirrel · 15/06/2017 13:20

Thank you Nanny R, I will check them out. Good old mumsnet Smile

WhiskyChick · 15/06/2017 13:31

I buy generic drugs, whatever I can find. Can't believe the mark ups for branded ones. Was ages before I realised that I could just buy paracetamol codeine from the chemist rather than migraleve :(

jarhead123 · 15/06/2017 13:37

My manager does. She's thick as mince so thinks they're 'better'
