To be pissed off at rotten Waitrose food before use by date

Angry

Bought pack of 4 chicken steak things the other day and use by date was 23rd feb.
Went to cook them today and the plastic had puffed up, when opened it stank of rotten eggs so threw it away. Nothing else in house so had to order takeaway.

Really annoyed at this as we aren't rolling in cash at the moment and food is so bloody expensive as it is! And it doesn't even last until the bb date.

Thinking of complaining to Waitrose but can't see what that will achieve. Gah

53 as a serial complainer I can confirm if you return the product you will get replacement plus refund at wait rose, if you don't take back the product its just refund. Something about them needing to send the product back to supplier then wait rose get a refund from them

I was given out of date cheese from my local Sainsbury's deli counter. I took it back to complain and very politely asked to speak to the manager as there was still out of date cheeses on display. They gave me a £10 voucher and a big slab of in date cheese.

I didn't create a big fuss, didn't threaten legal action, didn't ask for an extra voucher, just wanted someone to take the out of date food off the display there and then before someone else bought it. Money is tight for everyone and it would be awful if someone on a tighter budget than me wasted their money.

It happens occasionally.. I have bought chicken fillets in sainsburys that were off when I opened the pack, they were replaced when I took them back. I have had mince that has gone off before its use by date too. Probably both relating to air inside the packaging or an oversight in refridgerating it. Equally I have had meat that has been perfectly fresh after its use by date..

Before dates were put onto food, shoppers had to use their common sense and nose to identify if food was still safe to eat or not, and I still use that method.

I've never had anything off from Waitrose but I have noticed the food can have ridulously short use-by dates (like 1-2 days)

There , bet you're glad I posted that aren't you.

Just email them. Forward your order confirmation, you don't need to get them out of the bin and take them back.

It will take you 2 mins and you'll get your money back. If you explain that you had to order in for dinner you might get a voucher too.

Was it definitely off? Sometimes chicken close to its use by date can stink when you open the container, but if you leave it to "air" for a few minutes, and wash it, then it's fine.
