re my Bil's stinking boots

My bil visits us a couple of nights a week on the way home from work. I love my bil so this is not a problem but his smelly work boots are. He takes them off and leaves them in the hall when he comes in and they reek. I could not bring myself to ask him to leave them outside so I am thinking of buying these and slipping them inside whilst he is here. They only take 3 mins. Do you think I will get away with it

Bicarbonate of soda is cheaper and less obvious. But he might be surprised when he leaves white footprints everywhere!

pud1 · 22/02/2013 19:13

I think the white powder would give me away. These only take. Few minutes and would leave no evidence

I am sceptical they work. If you get on with him as well as you say, surely you could just say with a smile, Hey, do you mind if I just pop these outside?

Arithmeticulous · 22/02/2013 19:17

What about that spray stuff they use at bowling alleys?

Perhaps you could put some odor eater insoles in?

Flisspaps · 22/02/2013 19:54

I'd stick them in a bag and put them outside.

I've had horrendously stinky shoes and had this done, I don't blame others for not wanting to smell my shoes.

As a teen, my friends mum bought me a foot spray Blush

MusicalEndorphins · 22/02/2013 20:57

Would a spray of Febreeze work?

quoteunquote · 22/02/2013 21:06

Work boots stinking, often is a sign of trench foot. much more common than would you think,

it turns up a lot on sites, if your boots smell your feet are not healthy, and men are notoriously bad at taking action when it comes to their health.

if you give them a quick blast with some spray it will help but it sounds like his feet need treatment.

Illustrationaddict · 22/02/2013 21:11

Can you get your little one to innocently say something like 'poo-ey! Uncle joes Boots stink!!!' Might be more forgiveable from a child & you can take your queue from there?!

pud1 · 23/02/2013 11:46

Getting my dds to say some thing is a great idea. Knowing my two though they will probably say " mummy says your boots stink".

I think I am going to give them a try. Lakeland stuff usually works.

Can't you just be up front ands say "leave your stinky boots in the porch" ?

pud1 · 05/03/2013 12:35

Well it came yesterday and I snook it into his boots last night. I was astonished to find that it worked. They were not 100% pong free but much better. He didn't suspect a thing. Although he might be wondering why his boots smell a lot better

I would say "I love you BIL but your boots stink, I'm putting them outside ok?" then give him a hug and suggest the above self help advice.

I have told a few of DH's friends that before now, I've told them they're not coming in until their foot odour is down to a respectable level (I have naturally stinky feet so my level of acceptance isn't too high) and without exception (and with a few rolly eyes) I've had men standing on the threshold with foot spray. It's all done in good humour and it's non negotiable.

I suspect it's the good humour that is the key.
