.. to ask advice on disposing of knives

When we got married we were bought some pretty decent kitchen knives. However, roll on a few years (we have just celebrated our 26th anniversary) and these knives are really not that great anymore. The littlest knife suffered damage to the handle and the cooks and carving knife just willl not stay sharp anymore. Only the bread knife is still OK-ish.

So, DH suggested we treat ourselves to a new set of good knives for an anniversary present. Got them. Jolly nice they are.

But what to do with the old ones? We don't want them anymore but when DH suggested putting them in the bin I felt a bit queesy about that. They might not be very sharp anymore but they are long and pointy and I don't like the idea of them just being thrown on landfill. After all, supermarkets have special places to dispose of used batteries so surely knives ought to have some special treatment.

They are still cluttering up the kitchen drawer now until we can decide on the best way of disposing of them. Any ideas?

Your local police station will be happy to dispose of them for you

Is that right shesparkles, i have a load of old knives in my garage for this very reason!

Take them to your local tip rather than the police station.

memphis83 · 22/02/2013 13:35

Either local police station or tip. Our tip has a sharps disposal area.

scurryfunge · 22/02/2013 13:37

Unless there is a local knives amnesty going on, don't take them to a police station- take them to the tip.

complexnumber · 22/02/2013 13:38

Plunge them into random strangers. Police will then come to collect.

Your local scrap man will gladly take them off your hands.

The household waste depo will put them in with the recycled metals.

TapirBackRider · 22/02/2013 14:26

Take them to the tip - they're well equipped to dispose of them.
