To wonder about Heather Frost?

I have read various articles in the last few days about a mother of 11 getting a brand new house.

Some articles say she is a scrounger taking advantage of taxpayers money; others say she is a victim of our society.

The main points:

#She has a horse, which daughter Angel, says is hers, but not how the upkeep is paid for
#She doesn't work, but her partner does.
#Most people probably couldn't afford a house large enough to accomodate 11 kids
#2 of her kids have followed in her footsteps, having kids and raising them on benefits
#The childrens' father does not support the family, and refuses to.
#She had her first child at 14, by a 21 year-old, sad, and clearly the victim of abuse.
#She has gone through cancer and can't have any more children
#She completed a 'race for life' for charity, good on her.

Her children seem happy and well cared for, and she shows her concern by really, really not wanting them 'picked on' by the incident.

Your thoughts please!

And this is not a benefit bashing thread!

Perhaps the horse is a future meal, ? what with all those mouths to feed , "leeching" anklebiters should as a matter of course be sent to work for the squeezed middle >,Poundland (but receive no pay)> be shoved up lums , because they are ,apparently leeches, and leeches do not deserve daylight about them, people(imo) who refer to offspring as leeches ? i do wonder in my "fluff out of navel moments " if they themselves have offspring ? just a thought.

carabos · 21/02/2013 17:40

Agree with hohoho the govt owes it to the rest of us to do everything possible to make people who father children and then scarper aren't able to get away with handing the bill off to others. It's not up to Heather Frost to decide who pays for her children.

She may have made some bad choices (and haven't we all?) but someone should have stepped in and supported her in making changes so that she didn't keep repeating those choices, recognising that having been abused and pregnant as a young teen may well have compromised her decision-making capabilities.

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 21/02/2013 17:46

What about a horse? We will find out you know, we will send an officer around to check up.

JakeBullet · 21/02/2013 17:47

Her hair is pink as she died it to raise money for Cancer Research. Anyone else want to mention her hair?

catgirl1976 · 21/02/2013 17:48

Sooooooooooo.....night in at yours Gordy? I will bring wine and binoculars :)

Sleepyfergus · 21/02/2013 17:49

But to continue having kids isn't responsible. Contraception is a joint responsibility and free on the NHS. When do you think she sat down and thought, "okay....I've x amt of kids now and it's hard to look after them all. I should probably stop now and get fertilised/use contraception"

I watched her on Daybreak and she didn't give a very good account of her situation at all. Not very high brow I know, but one if her answers was that its the councils responsibility to home her. That and her 'shrug of the shoulders' attitude is what riles folk up.

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 21/02/2013 17:51

I agree that it's the 'attitude' that rubs me up the wrong way. I don't know this woman personally but I do know others who have that attitude and it pisses me right off. As I said on another thread about this, I really don't know what the answer is or how this mindset can be changed.

catgirl1976 · 21/02/2013 17:52

I don't care.

Really, I don't.

SugarMouse1 · 21/02/2013 17:53

Carabos-

But how? You can't stop someone having a large family!

So what was the state supposed to do, put the children into care as the number got too great?

Many children in care don't fare well, and is also really expensive.

My upstairs neighbours

Are married
Both have jobs, shifts which are co-ordinated to allow for childcare sharing
Have two children under school age who are not in any sort of childcare
Have decided somewhere along the line that screeching 'shut the fuck up you little piece(s) of shit' is the best way to tackle a situation where one or both of the children cries; there is also a good deal of 'what the fuck are you doing you fucking little shit(s)?'
And there is a lot of screeching from the mother that is so high pitched and fast that it is not possible to make out the words

Comments please?

SugarMouse1 · 21/02/2013 17:54

HoHoHO

Don't you think the press have probably spun it to make it seem as if her attitude is a lot worse then it is?

OP posts:
Sleepyfergus · 21/02/2013 17:54

Oh and re the horse....the daughter said (on Daybreak) that it was given to her, and that she works at the stables to pay for its keep. It hasn't needed and trip to the vets yet. No doubt they'll clip clop down to the PDSA when that happens.

RedwingOnFire · 21/02/2013 17:55

But why should it rile people up?

I fundamentally disagree with the concept of the "deserving poor", that people should be worthy or go on about how grateful they are is ridiculous. People are people. We should help ALL people who need it, regardless, not based upon whether we FEEL they deserve it because of their attitude!!

SugarMouse1 · 21/02/2013 17:55

Sleepy- Its like pp have said, being abused at 14 probably limited her decision-making capabilities.

sugarmouse I absolutely do not think Heather's children should have been taken into care. I do think that having had a baby at 14 she was clearly vulnerable and steps should have been taken to help her, not leave her to become a single mother to 11children she is unable to support by 3 men who are unwilling to support them and who she is unwilling to accept support from.

Those are bad decisions and it isn't beyond the wit of man to work out that some investment in helping her earlier might have been worth it in the long run.

However, given that we are where we are, she and her children should be properly housed - that's a minimum.

Sleepyfergus · 21/02/2013 18:02

It riles people up because there are folk out there who do abuse the system and clearly couldn't give a flying fuck about anyone else. And then flaunt it in the faces of those who are genuinely struggling. She may not have wanted this attention but she gave no convincing point of view from her side of things.

Granted the system is flawed, and there is no easy overnight solution.

catgirl1976 · 21/02/2013 18:02

Well said MrsDV

Given that 95% of people on here get (or got) Child Benefit maybe we should do an audit and if they can't account for it going on Terribly. Worthy. Things. they can repay it

I'm in Mrs DeVere's corner.
Maybe the shrug of the shoulders was because she didn't really understand what the interviewer wanted from her. Perhaps she has been overwhelmed by all this attention. Perhaps (you never know) she didn't sell her story to the paper, they may have sought her out from a small piece in her local paper, as is oft the way.
Whatever, benefit bashers, Mail frothers etc are using her as a scapegoat, a situation that is grossly unfair as she is not capable, intellectually, of defending herself in any way whatsoever.
