I'm sitting next to a small group of 18/19 year old boys in macdonalds who are discussing what's gone wrong with the world.

And apparently chaps, it starts with us. MN is (and I quote) 'the cesspit of humanity'.

I feel quite proud. Wink

"set some fucking ground rules"...oh dear, sounds like mumsie isn't too understanding of her son's importance in the world! Poor little sod, he must be soooo frustrated with the unfairness of it all.

YouTheCat · 20/02/2013 15:22

Aw bless him. Hmm

Limelight · 20/02/2013 15:23

To be fair it was the kid in question's friends who were off on one about that. He was keeping pretty quiet (clearly knows what side his bread's buttered on...)

I am surprised that they know what mumsnet is. It is quite unusual to hear lads that age having a discussion like that but at least they are having an 'intelligent' conversation instead of talking about footy and girls

NoelHeadbands · 20/02/2013 15:27

I kind of hope my sons will be talking about footy and girls. I'd be aghast if either of them were talking about frickin mumsnet

skratta · 20/02/2013 15:29

Poor guy. Can't get the right controller even after he does five minutes of housework

Sugarice · 20/02/2013 15:29

My teen boys have seen me on here but have never asked me about it ever, they are not interested one jot!

TheVermiciousKnid · 20/02/2013 15:30

Hm, it seems that while they are making assumptions about MN members, there are also quite a few assumptions made about 18/19 year olds on Mumsnet. Grin

RedwingOnFire · 20/02/2013 15:34

Shock Surely they got us mixed up with netmums

LadyBeagleEyes · 20/02/2013 15:40

Maybe they're on Digital Spy, they were slagging us off lat night, and then tried to come on here and invade, before being swiftly deleted.
Mind, you, we were described as Boden wearing middle class feminists who BF till our kids were teens.
My ds is nearly 18, and I can't imagine him and his mates talking about MN, he knows I go on it but has absolutely no interest in what I talk about.

Dryjuice25 · 20/02/2013 15:51

Sounds so far fetched for 19year olds but hey what do I know!

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/02/2013 16:01

They must have learned the phrase "the cesspit of humanity" from here. Grin Quite articulate, really. Bless 'em. (Nothing infuriates more than "Oh how sweet" and "bless 'em". Tee hee.)

YouTheCat · 20/02/2013 16:02

If it was far-fetched MN wouldn't get trolled by these 19 year old lads from time to time.

LadyBeagleEyes · 20/02/2013 16:04

I like 'bless their cotton socks', Uptoapoint.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/02/2013 16:06

Wow, they do lead the rock and roll lifestyle, don't they? Sitting in maccy Ds and chatting about MN.

complexnumber · 20/02/2013 16:13

Now, I would suggest that there is a heck of a lot of important stuff discussed on MN.

If I were to hear a bunch of lads discussing MN, I would be happy that they had, at least, considered it. And then formed an opinion.

IneedAgoldenNickname · 20/02/2013 16:13

I must be failing as a mumsnetter :( my children aren't fat, are only fed junk sometimes and don't have an x box. But I'm not a boden wearing middle class feminist either and I only bf until they were 20m (DS1) and 3 years (DS2), no where near teenagers!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/02/2013 16:17

Hmm. Yes, I guess that's true complex. But to be entirely honest, if I were a 19-year-old sitting chatting, I would hope I'd be talking about the topics discussed on MN, rather than being rude about an internet forum, wouldn't you?

KellyElly · 20/02/2013 16:49

This thread is making me crave McDonalds. I'm sitting at work thinking about chicken nuggets and double cheese burgers Grin

WorraLiberty · 20/02/2013 17:57

How does anyone know the age of trolls? Confused

Limelight · 20/02/2013 18:24

I suspect not one of the have actually been onto MN, or at least certainly not for long enough to form an opinion about anything discussed here.

It was basically just a smart-arsed kid (there was a 'lead' voice in all of this) who was showing off to his friends about how knowledgable, grown up, and smart he was, while they nodded and agreed with him. He was full of opinions and bluster and not much else. But it's telling that during the discussion with the kid about leaving home, he pompously explained to his chums that he had lived away from his parents for two years!

Children basically.

Unfortunately my 21 year old nephew is a bit like this (too clever for his own good, pompous, arrogant etc) so I recognise the type!

They'll get their hearts broken at some point and grow out of it very quickly!

Oh, purleeeeeese, they were surely referring to Nethuns Hmm

Grin
LadyBeagleEyes · 20/02/2013 18:40

I haven't checked, but I think the thread on DS is probably still there.
I used to go on it a lot, until I discovered MN, and found my home.
It does annoy me the perception people have of us, from other forums to Mathew Wright.
For every MC Boden wearer, there's a High Street shopping council house dweller, and the rest of us that don't fit in to any labels at all.
And many of us agree with each other.
Who'd have thought.

SecretNutellaFix · 20/02/2013 18:48

It sounds like they use digital spy forums then. They were having a go about us a couple of days ago. Used that exact phrase as well.
