to not understand people who bag up their dog's poo then leave the bag behind

Is there a really obvious reason I'm not getting, lacking the dog ownership knowledge as I am? Perhaps if they picked it up on their way back I'd understand, but they don't. Our village is littered with neat little bags of dog shit, sometimes hanging on fences or trees, sometimes just left on the ground. Do these people think they're any less of a twat than the people who do nothing? Who do they expect to pick up the bag and dispose of it properly? Have they considered how interesting a neatly knotted bag looks to a 2 year old? Am I allowed to scream obscenities if I witness them doing this, or will a dog owner enlighten me as to why this is, in fact, perfectly reasonable and universally condoned behaviour?

Hmm so a person actually makes a conscious decision to leave a bag of shit because they don't want to carry the emissions from their own animal for 30 minutes?

How thoughtful and considerate that person must be.

And the more bin thing is a myth.

There is a huge dog walking circuit near me (actually its a park for all, but its been taken over by shit leavers and owners of unleashed bouncy, friendly - note I am not blaming the dogs here). It has many, many bins.

I cannot tell you how many times I've seen an unleashed dog take a giant, steaming crap which the owner "couldn't see".

Shall I also tell you that people leave their bagged shit around and on the bin? This is a bin that is emptied regularly by a woman who also has to pick up the abandoned bags?

I don't believe the more bin thing is a myth, but maybe it varies by area. Like I said, there is one big lovely oak near us that lots of dog owners use, and it suffers with the poo bag on tree thing. But it only has one bin.

There is another field nearby, less than ten minutes drive away from the first park, and more likely to be used by dog owners on their shorter daily dog walks. I go there most days, and have never seen a poo bag on a tree, but then there is a specific poo bin on every corner and at the entrance, and more bins for litter. There is the occasional turd that hasn't been picked up at all, but nothing like the amount I see people on MN complaining about in their local parks.

It's the most bizarre thing ever - I carry about 6 bags around with me all tied in a knot together in case one accidentally falls and I've often had a bag split and cover my wellies! (not nice) but picked the whole thing up again. There's no need to leave it around - not even with the thinking I'll pick it up on the way back. Take a carrier bag and put all the used bags in the one carrier bag - and if there aren't enough poo bins then take it home - like you would a used nappy. I personally have in the past put the poo bag in a normal bin but then our village had an outcry about this - especially the one outside the school - it's a normal large black bin - no kid is going to shove their hand in and get poo all over them - I personally think any bin is a far better option than leaving it on the pavement/road or leaving the bag with the poo inside instead.

It doesn't matter if there's one bin or a bin every 5 feet.

If your dogs does a crap, pick it up and take it with you.

Or don't get a dog.

It's not like they're not known for having a random dump now is it.

There should definitely be MORE poo bins around but there are plenty of people who don't use them and never will because they won't pick up their dog poo. But for us responsible owners, more poo bins please!

No I do not understand this at all.

Smeone does it in our area. The streets are all littered with little black bags full of festering dog pooh. The person who does it either hides the bag behind lamp posts or in the gutter to be squished by the wheels of parking cars.

In fact I have seen the woman who does it. She walks her dog before she gets in her car. She carries the bag into her car then discretely opens the driver door and drops it out of the car once she has loaded the dog and herself and then drives off.

Why?

I don´t get it either.

If you´ve picked it up & bagged it-surely you´ve done the worst bit & it´s hardly that difficult to carry??

I mean-radical thought here-you could double bag or put poo bags in a nappy bag/carrier bag & carry that until you find a bin!

I was irritated this morning. I took the dog out for a walk to a new park we've discovered. Lovely with enclosed kiddies play area and big open area to one side ideal for dogs, with path winding round.

Arrived there this morning with the dog, who did his poo straightaway. I picked it up and looked round for bin.

The only bin in the whole park was inside the kiddies play area, which was padlocked. I toyed with hopping over the fence to reach the bin but didn't want to impale myself so didn't try it.

I left the bag on a tree, then picked it up on my way back and carried it almost all the way home before finding a bin.

A couple of weeks ago I took him to a common for a long walk. No bins on the common, fair enough, carried poo round with me. Got back to the carpark, which is next to a big designated picnic area. No bins. Not one.

I had to put the poo in the car and drive round looking for a bin FGS.

So, to those of you who think it's fine to leave it as long as you collect it later...does that apply to other rubbish?

If I happen to finish a picnic in the park, but I'm heading off for a walk, I'll just dump my stuff on the park bench until I come back? Or better still, put it in a carrier bag and hang it on a tree? Because I'm coming back, after all?

Filthy habit, leaving dog bags. I have a dog - my choice. She poos - my responsibility to clean up after her and remove the evidence. Why should other people have to look at stinky bags lying around?

I've never thought of bagging up poo and leaving it, infact I hang it off the buggy handles until I reach a bin luckily there are lots in my area. I once walked thru a cow field and there was a bagged poo, now surely if the field is covered in cows poo it would've been better for that person to leave the dog poo, rather than leaving it in a plastic bag.

I see far more abandoned litter than dog poo, bagged or otherwise.

The only thing I have more than dogs is dog owners. Probably best if I leave it there tbh.

There is a poo bin five doors from my house yet I am always finding poo bags on my street or left neatly under my hedge! Aaaaagh! It drives me mad . they can clearly see the bin just yards away, they have done the worst bit of feeling the warm squish through plastic as they pick it up, so why oh why have they just knotted it and dropped it where they are?

Seabird that is a bloody good point. I would never leave a bag of DD's dirty nappy at the beginning of a walk, I would bag it up and take it with me until I find a bin or bin it at home. However, DD is confronted with shit in bags on the beach where we live. I don't care if people don't want to carry it on the walk. Whether it has been there for five minutes or 5 hours is irrelevant to my toddler.

Please pick it up and don't leave it, even for half an hour.

Erm. Couldn't you just take it home and put it in your own dustbin. Like you would with a used disposable nappy.

Personally I think the lack of dog poo bins is a red herring and it is a luxury they are provided at all. Default should surely be to dispose of it in your own bin.

I've seen poo trees and bushes...absolutely disgusting especially as I was on my bike and hat to duck so I didnt hit a bag on a low branch....dirty fuckers

I triple bag my dog's poo if I know there are no bins around. I would like more bins but I don't think it would encourage the lazy dog walkers in my area. Bending down seems to be too good for some of these people!

It is one of my reasons I don't want a dog. I don't want to be carrying bags of poo about.

I could have done 5foot5 but as I was two hours from home I didn't really fancy it.

Driving round looking for one wasn't much of a hardship, my point was how ridiculous to have a picnic area with no bin.

We live near some shooting ranges, which have a lovely woodland walk surrounding it. A haven for lovely dogs and their owners.

One particular part is so festooned with dog poo bags - on the path, in the trees - that I will no longer walk my dog down "dog poo alley" At least some owners do pick up their shit. It seems to me that the owners of small doggies are particularly blind to their poops.

We are in heavy woodlands, with plenty of bramble bushes and heavy over grown bracken...if they dont want to carry the shit, why not scoop, throw the leavings into the bramble patch and take the baggie home. This way the poo biodegrades, its not in anyones way, it cannot be trodden on by small children, and there are no blasted bags to clear up - you know they all end up in landfill anyway. Sigh.

I do despair at some owners.

I would say it's laziness, but dog owners can't be that lazy because they do get out and walk their dogs.

I have done this

In my defence, it was on a coastal walk we did regularly on holiday. We would do a mile, then turn round and come back the same way. Dog would always poo in the first few minutes, so we would bag it and hide it, then pick it up on the way back - we never, ever, left it.

The locals just used to take a spade and chuck it down the cliff edge...
