That sounds pricy! Mine does full head colour or highlight and cut and either straightened or curled and its never more than 50. Maybe it depends what part of country and if they rent a chair or are employed by salon.

Would you consider going to trainee night at a good salon? They are supervised throughout.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 19/02/2013 09:53

My hairdresser is only £40 for full head of highlights, cut blow dry and finish. She's mobile though, a salon in town is similar price to the one you found so not all are that expensive. My sil was a hairdresser and didn't earn much at all so probably depends where you work too.

Cheap! Mines £140 for full head tint, cut and colour. Every 6 weeks (am going very grey). But t'is London... And he had transformed my hair so worth every penny.

We're in an expensive city in the South West, £40 for a full head that's amazing!!!

It's only worth retraining if you intend to buy your own salon. The other stylists will either rent a chair from the salon owner or be on a percentage of their takings, the owner will get the rest.

Groovee · 19/02/2013 10:12

The mobile hairdresser MIL uses is cheap. But the chair she used to rent was £200 and went up to £400 a week when someone bought the salon. So before they get paid they have to stump up the rent. So really your hairdresser may not get that much from the £75 and the cost of supplies too.

I have often thought this, me hairdresser, husband plumber. Add a sideline of granny sitting and flat pack erecting/gate mending, etc. We would be rich.

AKissIsNotAContract · 19/02/2013 12:18

Funnily enough, my brother is a plumber and his partner is a hairdresser. They aren't rich though. For both careers, you need to own the business, not just work at one, to do that well out of it.

Last time I went to hairdresser
In November I had tint, half head of highlights, cut & blow dry. In SW London cost me £190!!!!!!
I have been having my hair done at the same high street hair salon for 10 years. Am scared to go somewhere else, but can't afford it really.

soontobeburns · 19/02/2013 12:30

Jesus. For me to get my hair dyed and cut is £25 at the local blow dry bar. They do it well too.

Theicingontop · 19/02/2013 12:33

I get mine done at Tesco, £7.

I'm in the South East - and my small local salon charges £80 for a cut and blow dry, if I get colours done too it comes to £130.
