to think that the iphone's latest software update shouldn't screw your phone up!

Please do NOT download the latest software update ios 6.1.1. My friend has done this and it appears to have wrecked his iPhone5! He has been in the Orange shop twice and the Apple shop twice today. Phone is just over 12 months old so out of warranty. Had new sim card, been reset several times etc but all to no avail. Apple are trying to say the phone must have had a hidden fault in the 1st place for the software update to have broken the phone. AIBU to expect Apple to hold their hands up and take responsibility for either repairing or replacing phone? Crap customer service!

Thanks for the warning, will back up everything 1st. Not much to back up as I have only had this phone for a few weeks

hellsbells99 · 19/02/2013 13:01

Apple are now saying that the software upgrade has caused the problem! My friend has been asked to return to the Apple shop as they now have a fix.....
We are now trying to cancel the replacement phone we have just ordered and paid for after Apple initially said it was nothing to do with them!

Why is there such a wide range of differing result of installing the update?

Guccidayoneday · 19/02/2013 16:26

Yes I updated my iPhone 4S, and it totally messed it up, had to restore to factory settings and then backup to iTunes, i lost quite a bit of stuff (notes, ringtones, recent photos, it took hours to sort it out, im not impressed at all.

Catchingmockingbirds · 19/02/2013 16:30

I got the update on my 4 and DP updated his 4s. No problems here.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 19/02/2013 17:07

My 4s is fine too.

Sallyingforth · 19/02/2013 17:20

Of course you are not BU.
But I have to LOL at all the stories of wonderful iphones going wrong!
Never had a problem with Samsung Android :)

NotADragonOfSoup · 19/02/2013 17:24

Do you also LOL at all the stories of wonderful iPhones not going wrong?

Sallyingforth · 19/02/2013 17:30

Why should I? They are only doing what they should.

Catchingmockingbirds · 19/02/2013 17:30

:o haha dragon

Dillydollydaydream · 19/02/2013 17:31

I haven't done the last 2 iOS updates and my phone is fine, dh done the updates and his battery life is rubbish an I use my phone more than him!
I'm thinking of getting a windows phone when I next upgrade.

NotADragonOfSoup · 19/02/2013 17:32

Ah. So you base your judgement on the tiny minority that have a problem.

NotADragonOfSoup · 19/02/2013 17:32

Which seems a little odd TBH.

Catchingmockingbirds · 19/02/2013 17:33

DP had a Samsung android, he returned it after a week because it was so crap and he kept having problems. He was sent out a replacement samsung which also kept having problems so he gave up and got an iPhone instead, which he's never had any problems with.

Sallyingforth · 19/02/2013 17:49

So you base your judgement on the tiny minority that have a problem.

What judgment? I made no judgment at all. Read my post again. I commented only on the ones that went wrong. I've no idea how others feel about theirs.

chickydoo · 19/02/2013 19:29

I updated my 4s no probs at all.

chickydoo · 19/02/2013 19:32

Have to add
I update direct to phone now, rather than being plugged in to pc, both times I have done this it's been fine.
Have updated from pc previously & had a few issues

twofaceshenanigans · 19/02/2013 19:35

I now have the iOS 6.1.2 update installing on my 4s, will report back

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/02/2013 08:25

Since I read this thread none of our phones or iPads asked for the 6.1.1 update even though I was searching for it so it must have been pulled fairly swiftly. It's asking for the 6.1.2 now. I'll wait to see what happens with twofaces :o

hiddenhome · 20/02/2013 09:51

I've just had a message telling me they've fixed these issues and to download the update, but I'm not going to as I'm not convinced. SIL has problems with her updated iPhone and I don't fancy the same.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/02/2013 10:25

Just updated the second one and phone is fine.
