To take dd2 to toddler group today

Dd1 has had chicken pox, now cleared up (had it last week). Dd2 shows no signs But I know she could be incubating. Should I carry on as normal or keep her away from toddler group, gym club etc? And if so for how long. She may not get it, and obviously dd1 was at school whilst incubating.

YABU! Stay away!

Sirzy · 18/02/2013 07:45

If she is showing no signs of it then you are best going on as normal,

The only time I would consider not going would be if someone vulnerable was likely to be there.

If she starts showing signs of illness that is when you need to keep away from people.

nellyjelly · 18/02/2013 07:46

Just to be on safe side.....keep away.

GColdtimer · 18/02/2013 07:55

So do I have to keep her in for 3 weeks then, just in case she has it? Nursery have said to take her as normal as she is showing no signs.

I wouldn't keep her in if she's not showing any symptoms.

GColdtimer · 18/02/2013 09:09

So for those who think I should keep her in, how long should I keep her in for?

Take her unless she has temp or seems unwell. She might not get it.

GColdtimer · 18/02/2013 09:38

So she seems perfectly fine and is bouncing around the room. Spoke to my microbiologist friend and she said carry on as normal unless she gets a temperature. She is happy to have us round for coffee too!

I would say if she was showing any signs of illness even a sniffle then it would be likely that she could be incubating it. And I would keep her away from groups.

However, when my dds had it, they had it in quick succession of each other, the 1st still had active blisters when the 2nd started coming out in them.
If your dd1 has cleared up, and dd2 doesn't have it yet, then the chances are she's not going to get it this time.

forevergreek · 18/02/2013 09:41

I wouldn't say stay in, but I would avoid places like toddler groups etc. they are most likely to have pregnant people/ little ones vulnerable to it.

I would go out to say quiet museums/ park/ library if empty enough. Until the end of the week, not 3 weeks. If she has it she should be spotty by then.

landofsoapandglory · 18/02/2013 09:42

I would carry on as normal, she might not even come down with it! You can't stay in "just incase" everytime someone in the household has had an illness!

ilovepowerhoop · 18/02/2013 11:28

I would continue as normal until she shows symptoms. It was around 14 days between dd having chicken pox and ds getting it but the incubation period is up to 3 weeks.

lemonmajestic · 18/02/2013 16:56

They are only infectious for 1-2 days before the spots appear. It is fine to take them out if symptom free for up to 14 days after exposure to virus. so this week should be fine. Would be more careful closer to the end of the 3 week incubation period though.

GColdtimer · 18/02/2013 18:22

I didn't know that lemon, thank you. And for everyone's else's reassurance.
