to think it shouldn't be an issue to politely decline sitting on a bar stool...

...this comes from me going to a makeup shop and wanting to find a new blusher. So the make-up artist tells me to take a seat - and god almighty its one of those damn bar stools. I'm only 5ft and I find them so awkward. For one I cannot ever get on them gracefully, my feet never reach the foot rail so my legs are left dangling in the air.

So I politely said I would prefer to stand and then subjected to her pulling her face at me in disgust. I'd rather not make a fool of myself trying to get on these things.

and then subjected to her pulling her face at me in disgust.

Yeah but did she really? or was it just the way you took it? Grin

I mean 'disgust' because you didn't want to sit down?

Think someone's a little paranoid...

HecateWhoopass · 17/02/2013 21:21

I love to innocently ask people what's wrong when they pull a face at me.

it's fun. Blush

Did you tell her that you'd prefer to stand because you struggle to get on the damned things cos you're so short! (breaks the ice, seems friendly, creates rapport) or did you just say "I'd prefer to stand" (can be seen as dismissive)

Might she have put the wrong interpretation on "I'd prefer to stand" do you think?

Not that that makes it ok that she pulled a face, but people are weird. There's all this stuff that you have to do / know / follow in order to effectively interact with them.

No I did say I prefer to stand as I am short and find it hard to get on the stool - in a friendly manner and she did pull a face of disgust so not being paranoid or making it up and its hard to describe her facial expression and disgust sums it up.

I just don't see what the problem is not all of us can get on those stools easily or maybe it is just me but what happened to the customer being put first - I have worked in retail so if a customer said the same to me I would of made sure they were comfortable and put them at ease e.g. joked with her that I hate them too.

Oh well, just forget about it. Some people are funny buggers. It'll have been nothing to do with you, honestly. some people are just lip curlers. It's their problem, not yours. Grin

Makeup lady in dept store once pulled a face of disgust at my open pores. i'm scared to ever go back.

Patchouli · 17/02/2013 21:57

Yes, she should have put you first and offered you a bunk up.

ElectricMonk · 17/02/2013 22:01

Maybe she thought she was doing a sympathetic grimace-y thing? Otherwise, my guess is that she was disappointed that you weren't assuming the position required for her to waylay you and demo some of the other products "while you're sitting here..."

Foggles · 17/02/2013 22:08

She wanted your legs off the floor so you couldn't run away. Grin

Lol to far I asked what blusher would suit my skin complexion... her response was well what colour do you like - kind of defeats the purpose of me asking her what suits me. Suffice to say I won't be going back there again.
