When people who usually speak well use "ain't" to get a point across.

"slit" (when used to describe a cut)
"pick apart" - for some reason, the lecturers at my university use this constantly. "Your immediate thought may be x, but when you start to pick that apart, it's actually y."

One I hate and is used on here all the time - 'bite the bullet'.

Argh, feel unclean just typing it. Hate 'speaks volumes' too, somewhat overused on the Relationships board.
