I'm late 40s, no DP, children have flown, financially not bad off. During the week I keep myself busy in the evenings with sports, evening classes etc, see the odd friend.

But come the weekend and I'm stuck for something to do as I don't have anyone to go out with and I'm not actually into drinking/eating type evenings anyway. Would much prefer to do something - doing activities means I don't feel out of place going along on my own, but these sort of things seem generally to take place Mon to Thurs.

Also I'm not in a position to be able to go away at weekends as I care for my parents who live near me.

So AIBU? Or am I missing something?

Try this informal site if you are independent

I hope you find stuff you enjoy.

Cinema? Museums open late on Fridays?

How about a rambling group?

gym classes?

Maybe you should find a salsa class. Is very hard to danse salsa if you drink alcohol so it ends up to be a 2 drinks maximum night out. If you look on the salsa jive website you should be able to find a drop in class with dancing afterwards. You don't need to bring a partner and by the end of the lesson you will have danced with everyone at least once.

Universities/adult education - there are loads of Saturday and weekend schools. Get the brochures of everything within (say) 30 miles and sign up for some that look interesting.

Cookery classes, craft things, same - plenty of weekend dayschools.

Or could you volunteer at local museum / join a church / walk dogs for old people (Cinnamon Trust)?

I'm Birmingham way - north side, but have transport.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
