Really it means just that and that you should show the courtesy of replying and not leaving the texter in abeyance as if your time is MUCH more important than mine"

Rant over !

When did you ask them?

Was it something that needed to be sorted quickly?

smellysocksandchickenpox · 16/02/2013 21:34

if you want a quick/instant reply use a more instant form of communication - i.e. phone them!

I hate when people use text or email or FBmessage and then get narked that you don't reply instantly and stop what you're doing to have a text conversation with them - if you want a conversation now, ring me! if you text then I take it that it can wait!

LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 21:34

Play date thing for half term. 2 days ago.

I should add that my text was in reply to other persons text !

ClippedPhoenix · 16/02/2013 21:36

I have a feeling that this isn't the first time it's happened.

I'd choose friends with same manners as me in future and blow her off.

Birdsgottafly · 16/02/2013 21:37

The've ment to txt back and then something has come up and now they have forgot, i do this constantly.

Phone them, if it is important to you.

AgentZigzag · 16/02/2013 21:38

But then if your text was as sparse as your OP it's possible they weren't sure what you were asking.

No offence like Grin

LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 21:40

No offence taken. It was a long text. No question that a reply was required. It's half term ffs - !!!!!

ClippedPhoenix · 16/02/2013 21:40

isnt it funny that people who do this go on the defensive? and start attacking the op.

sleepingsatellite18 · 16/02/2013 21:40

When I say "let me know" it's usually a causal thing

Like "yeah just let me know"

I wouldn't use it if I wanted a quick-ish reply

Thisisaeuphemism · 16/02/2013 21:42

I like your use of the word 'abeyance'. Can I use it too?

Let me know x

LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 21:43

Of course, you may, thisisaeupanism. :-)

OP posts:
HeadfirstForHalos · 16/02/2013 21:44

They only broke up yesterday! If you wanted a quick reply you needed to put "please let me know by XYZ if we are meeting so I can make plans"

If they haven't replied by tomorrow afternoon just text again saying you could do with knowing either way.

Thisisaeuphemism · 16/02/2013 21:45

You do a particularly fast turn around, it has to be said!

I tend to leave people in abeyance(?) for a day or so - make 'em sweat...

LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 21:46

They did, Heads, but this has ongoing backstory of a week.

OP posts:
LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 21:46

Yeah. Very funny

FreyaSnow · 16/02/2013 21:48

I always assume if somebody wanted an immediate answer, they would phone me on my landline. I can go for days without looking at my mobile phone.

Thisisaeuphemism · 16/02/2013 21:48

It is annoying when it happens - text again, and say ' did you get my text?' ?

Don't be left in abeyance. ;)

Thisisaeuphemism · 16/02/2013 21:49

And then let us know...

NamelessHereForEvermore · 16/02/2013 21:51

Is there a reason - however poor - that you can't phone?

LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 21:51

Nope. I won't. This is a response to another persons request. Means nothing to me. And yes. I know that sounds harsh.

OP posts:
Thisisaeuphemism · 16/02/2013 21:51

I hate phoning. Doesn't everyone?

NamelessHereForEvermore · 16/02/2013 21:55

Ummm. No. Were you alive in the pre-texting era? It's what we did for years and years. And if we wanted to know something, for definite, we could ask instead of forever wonder if the text went through, if the person read it, if they give enough of a shit to answer and then go to all the trouble of asking the internetz what to do next.

HollyBerryBush · 16/02/2013 21:58

I know this is a bit radical - can't you phone her?

I hate texts. But thats just me! All that thumbing about.

LiveLoveBoogie · 16/02/2013 22:00

Handbags !!!!!

I was just texting off steam - massive backstory which ultimately requires the courtesy of a reply. If someone texts you asking you for something that is important to them - allegedly- then it's fair that they respond to your reply out of courtesy.
