Fru, maybe she's like my friend and thinks it means lots of love... We've tried telling her it could get her into a sticky situation ie- 'So sorry to hear your dog has died, lol x'

I know someone who seems to end everything she writes with lol or lmao.

My brain now converts the latter into "lame-o" which is a bit more apt.

LaLaGabby · 16/02/2013 09:25

You are absolutely correct Chaos, furthermore:

Actual lol can also be written IRLOL.

LOL said aloud must always be pronounced ELL-OH-ELL not loll.

The plural of lol is not lolz but lulz.

HTH

Good point snuffaluffagus, I hadn't thought of that - perhaps she did mean lots of love.

The first time I came across lol/LOL in RL was donkeys years ago at work. There was company that did some work for our company, I was the main client contact and the contact at the other company was a guy who was a fair bit younger than me who I got on well with. We occasionally used to have jokey emails, involving the work that was being done. He once ended one of his emails with LOL. I sat there puzzling over it for ages - although we had a good working relationship, I couldn't quite understand why he was sending me lots of love!

I don't think I embarrassed myself or him by questioning it, but I did eventually discover that he didn't love me he was just amused by our email exchange Blush Grin

Where do you stand on PMSL? As far away as possible I would imagine?
