Im not doing it but did think twice. I bought a nice piece of jewellery on there, in box etc.

If i HAD decided to give it to a family member as a gift would that
a) be crap
B) be a cunning bargain
c) be ok as long as i said " its not brand new"
d) another

DONT GET ALL AERATED I AM NOT DOING IT but did think it would suit recipient

I'd go with d, I can't see the problem. I have bought stuff from charity shops as presents before.

BelindaCarlisle · 15/02/2013 16:48

and you never fess up?

d) other: Vintage Gift

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 15/02/2013 16:50

I give secondhand gifts to family all the time. However I know that my family likes shopping in charity shops and would not be offended. With other people I would generally ask first and it would depend on the item.

Lovelygoldboots · 15/02/2013 16:53

Well theres no need to say. If you think the gift would suit the recipient then why not. It's been given from the heart. I gave a book to my sons friend for his birthday from Oxfam. It wad about space and he loved it. Mil got an ornament from help the aged for Xmas off kids.

ScentedNappyHag · 15/02/2013 16:54

If it was something I'd love (or at least something the giver thought I would love), it being second hand wouldn't bother me at all!

Lulabellarama · 15/02/2013 16:56

I dont see what the problem is. It's an item you think they'd like, therefore its a suitable present.
Unless you're buying knickers I dont think you need to worry.

StuntGirl · 15/02/2013 17:00

Why would you even tell them?

ENormaSnob · 15/02/2013 17:08

It really wouldn't bother me.

I would be happy to give or receive a second hand item.

Wishiwasanheiress · 15/02/2013 17:08

Unless u always give receipts with presents and I don't how would they know?

Wishiwasanheiress · 15/02/2013 17:09

Also on eBay it's not always second hand! Plenty of traders there now!

Trills · 15/02/2013 17:09

I agree with Jessie

Vintage is the word.

Schooldidi · 15/02/2013 17:11

I'd actually never considered that people might not like a gift from ebay. Have I offended a load of people without them ever telling me?

Can you tell it's second hand? Is it actually second hand as a lot of people sell crafty things on there?

Lovelygoldboots · 15/02/2013 17:12

I saw Kirsty Allsop wrap a second hand book up for Xmas on one of her shows. Repeat after me chic not cheap Grin

CointreauVersial · 15/02/2013 17:13

I probably wouldn't gift second-hand clothing, but if it's jewellery it's probably "as new" anyway, so who would know?

BelindaCarlisle · 15/02/2013 17:13

yes - it will look new.

ANyway am keeping. mwah hahahah

My aunties bought DS some lovely babygros when he was born; they were clearly second hand ones but lovely, interesting ones in bright colours. I was pleased they'd taken the time and effort.
