To not visit Dsis a week after she's had noro?

We're supposed to be having a sleepover , myself and two DCs as haven't seen her properly for months. But she had noro Tuesday. I'm phobic... And apparently it lives on fabric for 12 days! Can't think of an excuse and how neurotic am I being?

Has she been hurling all over the sofa and carpet then? If so I can possibly understand it if the 12 days thing is true. That said, Id expect she cleaned it.

I think you are being quite U tbh.

quoteunquote · 14/02/2013 19:13

I wouldn't go anywhere near, but I have a suppressed immune system.

if you do wash your hands a lot, and don't touch your face, if you train your children to do this it really helps keep infections away.

cathyearnshaw · 14/02/2013 19:35

Well all 3 of them had it, one child, both her bed and spare bed slept in while puking etc she still has it today. We would be sleepingon the same beds, and crawling daughter over carpets floors etc.

I suspect I bu but as an emetophobe it's hard to get any objectivity...

I'd stay away. Especially if she is still unwell. I may be wrong but I think norovirus can also be airborne I believe, ie little droplets having around in the air after annulled person pukes/loos!).........

Whoknowswhocares · 14/02/2013 19:44

My DH had noro a couple of weeks ago. Not one of us in the house caught it, despite all being here the whole time! No spare room so I was lumbered sleeping next to him. I STILL didn't get it

Yabu so long as they are all without symptoms by then

cathyearnshaw · 14/02/2013 19:45

That's what I think- aerosol droplets on carpets etc. it only takes 20 particles to infect someone. But she'll be gutted and think I'm bu....

Ok, I was picturing your sister having had the virus. Children are something else, they DO hurl all over carpets and beds.

If the 12 day thing is true then stay away.

I didnt know that, one to keep in mind.

SirBoobAlot · 14/02/2013 19:56

I wouldn't go in all honesty. I'd wait a few weeks and then rearrange.

catkind · 14/02/2013 19:59

We seem to have managed to pass it on to people we visited a week after we thought we were clear. So no, not U at all to postpone.

cathyearnshaw · 14/02/2013 21:07

Catkind- interesting. Just have to find a good excuse that both she and my overbearing mother will accept.

We all had it at the beginning of December, my mum came to stay 10 days after we had our last symptoms, 2nd night she was here she caught it - I understand it can live on surfaces for 3 weeks!! I wouldn't go to be honest, its just such a vile bug to catch

Smartiepants79 · 14/02/2013 21:52

If she is still ill then stay away. Definitely still infectious. Surely she wouldn't want you and your children to get it. It can be very serious in children. You are being very sensible and I would expect family members to be understanding.

Wants4 · 14/02/2013 22:03

Don't go - it's nasty.
Tell her you have the trots, might be the virus starting. She will disinvite you all pretty fast - she won't want it back (wink)

florry88 · 14/02/2013 22:06

phobic here too. I guess you would be ok but if it wee me the worry of it would make it pointless, delay it so you can enjoy

accordiongirl · 14/02/2013 22:16

I really feel your pain on this! I'm also emetophobic and find norovirus season really challenging!!! today I was furious that the class teacher came to work with tummy bug.
A tip though - I'm learning meditation and it's actually helping me!
Even so, even with all the "om" in the world, I would still struggle to go within five miles of that place... People have to understand that some things bother some people more than other things. You maybe have other reasons too, like a child who's particularly vulnerable, or nobody to help out if you get ill?

Emetophobes of the world unite!

I had to take my ds to our local hospital yesterday for a planned assessment. It had loads of wards closed over the weekend because of noro. Had smaller ds with me too. We hand sanitised on arrival and the 2 of them drove me mad in the waiting room using the automatic sanitiser dispenser. On the way out ds1 needed the loo. He's big enough to go on his own. Forgot to hand clean on the way out. 10pm he started vomiting. Shortly thereafter diahrreah. DS2 is fine.

So, in short, no YANBU, don't go, it's virulent. looking forward to coming down with it in next 48 hrs

VincenzaOfSaragossa · 14/02/2013 22:21

Another emetophobe here. No, I wouldn't go anywhere near!!!
