To wish posters would put clear titles on their threads

So I will know at a glance whether I want to open it or not.

My computer is quite slow somedays and I hate wasting time slowly opening then slowly waiting for a thread to close because it has been titled something like:

Is this unreasonable?

AIBU to be FUMING?

Annoyed and Upset.

or somesuch to discover its about something I have no interest in.

Surely its not that hard to give some indication in the title as to what the thread is about?

I post on another forum and they actually don't allow vague titles and remove them and replace them with something clearer and more informative.

YANBU, I find it a bit annoying as well. I do try! Grin
Never mind, have a cup of tea!

Sirzy · 14/02/2013 12:26

It annoys me to.

Pandemoniaa · 14/02/2013 12:28

I'll always check out fuming. But then I have an unhealthy interest in fire.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 14/02/2013 12:29

I was thinking the exact same thing last night. TBH I think it's a bit advertiser- cheesy. Like 'Hey, I'm enticing you to click my thread by making you curious' V naff. Just say what the thread's about FFS.

Invariably threads that start like that are disappointing/dull.

So YANBU to wish it were different but YABU to let it make you very cross.

GreenLeafTea · 14/02/2013 12:35

I prefer 'fumming' ones. I don't know why but that typo always tickles me.

I hate 'Well am I?' It just sounds so demanding.

MrsKeithRichards · 14/02/2013 12:44

Incandescent with rage is a personal fave.

atthewelles · 14/02/2013 12:47

I think you're right LetsFace, some posters treat the title like a bit of a teaser to draw you in because they know the subject matter itself wouldn't get that much traffic otherwise.

I do like I AM FUMING then there is nowt to be fuming about always makes me Grin I like random thread titles makes the forum interesting and at least it gets people interested where as if they had a really boring title on a really boring thing nobody would post

foxache · 14/02/2013 12:56

I agree with what's been said so far.

However, sometimes a vague, non-detailed title keeps it a little more private and away from the casual lurker who'll just scan thread titles, rather than us lot who'll read any old bollocks.

For example, if I wanted to start a thread moaning about my neighbour's chickens but was worried she might come on here and see 'chickens' in a title, then I'd be more disguised.

HoratiaWinwood · 14/02/2013 13:13

It also means you can't remember if you've read it.

"Aibu about this?" Probably.
"Do you like this baby name?" No, it's shit.

OP, I'm confident I know what other forum you mean. They are ruthless because of the very high traffic. "... this woman" is a pet hate there.

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 14/02/2013 13:30

Yanbu. It's lazy posting imo.

I like a Chaos or Getorf thread title. They're always entertaining and draw me in.

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 14/02/2013 13:37

I actually tend to ignore non specific thread titles, unless there are a lot of replies, then I can't help myself.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 14/02/2013 15:16

Grin at Foxache's post. Sadly there are days where any old bollocks will do.

limitedperiodonly · 14/02/2013 15:24

YANBU I refused to click on one yesterday. I was proud because I usually give in. It's never worth it.

I like the firm smack of a website that polices thread titles for clarity.

axure · 14/02/2013 15:30

I get particularly annoyed at ones which promise to be titillating, then turn out to be damp squibs.

mrsjay · 14/02/2013 15:41

I like a Chaos or Getorf thread title. They're always entertaining and draw me in.

yes I do too and they are usually really random and loads of fun Smile

adeucalione · 14/02/2013 15:44

I ignore all non-specific titles, that'll teach 'em.

greencolorpack · 14/02/2013 15:53

I post non specific titles cos I am scared of my momma reading. I don't think she would, she would rather die before defining herself as "just a mother" so I guess the name of this site is Kryptonite to mum but sometimes I think, oh dear, what if mum saw this title and figured out its me.

Most of the time I post a new thread and then give up in despair at the thought of outing myself so all those who resent the vague titles be glad I have stopped some in their tracks!

Thread titles that make me think wtf are things like.... how much toilet roll do you get through a week? Do you fold or scrunch? I mean why would anyone care about what they do let alone hundreds of strangers? Titles like that sometimes make me curious enough to click but I never post.
