Scissors - I roll the whole chilli to loosen the seeds, snip off the stalk and tip the seeds into the bin. The husk is then snipped with kitchen scissors and only one hand gets chilli on it!

Tanith · 13/02/2013 19:09

DH once chopped some chillies. Hot ones, they were, a nice red colour.
He washed his hands, then he went for a wee... GrinGrin

VeryDullNameChange · 13/02/2013 19:14

Could be worse, DH accidentally inhaled a chilli seed up his nose while prepping last night. He informs me that it's really remarkably painful/uncomfortable, and there was sod all he could do about it.

Tanith · 13/02/2013 19:20

However did he manage to do that? Shock

And did he screech as loudly as my DH did? Smile

cherrycherry41 · 13/02/2013 19:30

use a fork to hold chilli down whilst slicing with a knife! :)

snice · 13/02/2013 19:31

i always wear my rubber gloves after horrible contact lens experience in the past

VeryDullNameChange · 13/02/2013 19:32

He just sniffed at exactly the wrong moment. He didn't scream but he did swear loudly, and his eyes watered a lot.

NeedsABigCar · 13/02/2013 19:32

Rubber gloves. Or hold it down with a bit of folded up kitchen paper.

VeryDullNameChange · 13/02/2013 19:33

....I tried to be sympathetic, but I was singing the Ferret song at the sake time, so he felt a bit hard-done-by

aldiwhore · 13/02/2013 19:36

I used my mini chopper (it was a gift, not an impulse kleeneeze order honest), do about 30 chillies and freeze them. Or wear CSI gloves.

Mawgatron · 13/02/2013 19:50

So getting csi gloves. Don't even like spicy food. Being a food little wifey as DH likes a bit of spice. The things we do for love...

I her hat oiling your hands can help...

secretscwirrels · 13/02/2013 19:55

Put them in a bag in the freezer. Take out as and when and chop from frozen. They don't seem to burn as much when frozen.

Tanith · 13/02/2013 19:57

I've been told that washing your hands in milk or lemon juice will clean them of the irritant. He was an Indian restaurant chef, so presumably knew what he was talking about.

Our poor DHs

Itchywoolyjumper · 13/02/2013 20:00

That's what I do as well, Cherrycherry

StuntGirl · 13/02/2013 20:29
