To not believe celebrities when they talk about their diets

Those articles in magazines where they ask a celeb about their typical day's food intake and its always:

Breakfast: Bowl of porridge with blueberries and mango stirred through

Lunch: A vegetable stir fry

Dinner: Some grilled fish and a salad

I bet most of them live on crisps, cigarettes and free champagne.

I think Fern Britton worked very hard at losing weight, as well as having a gastric band fitted.

Fillyjonk75 · 13/02/2013 12:56

I was working 4 days a week in a sedentary job when mine were toddlers. I sit down a lot less now I work from home (except when I'm on MN :))

atthewelles · 13/02/2013 12:57

I remember a few years ago Jane McDonald from loose women suddenly dropped loads of weight and really toned up. She said it was down to using the stairs instead of the lift [hmm}

Bunfags · 13/02/2013 12:57

I reckon most of them don't eat. They live off fags, booze and cocaine.

limitedperiodonly · 13/02/2013 13:00

She was pilloried because editors thought readers would like it. I think they probably guessed correctly, which is very depressing.

She may have denied having a gastric band. But then I don't tell everyone about my medical history either. It's not compulsory.

I can't remember whether she endorsed slimming products, if she did, that would have been unwise.

She did advertise some snack thing where the ad was a joke about her being slim and wearing a fat suit. The underlying message was that the snack didn't make you slim because to believe otherwise would have been ridiculous.

whateveritakes · 13/02/2013 13:02

fern might have lied about the band but the way she got thin was by eating well and exercising wasn't it.

Think the super size/super skinny programme is fascinating. I am amazed that some of the girls are classified as worryingly superskinny as they all seem to look the size we are "supposed" to be.
They eat shit too but just not that much of anything.

BalloonSlayer · 13/02/2013 13:06

atthewelles you forgot to mention: "And of course I just luuuurve chocolate - don't we all, girls? - so every week I treat myself to two squares of Green & Blacks organic 90% cocoa Bitterasgall Chocolate. There's no reason why looking good means you can't indulge in a little luxury."

atthewelles · 13/02/2013 13:08

LOL Balloon. Not to mention 'I don't believe in denying myself treats so once a month I have a small glass of wine and two crisps'.

Bogeyface · 13/02/2013 13:09

The reason Fern was so pillioried was because she implied that it was down to diet and exercise and "you can do it too!" when in fact, without a gastric band, no you can't!

Her whole persona is based on being "one of us" (whoever "we" are) and it turned out she was "one of them" .

DewDr0p · 13/02/2013 13:13

This is why I don't read women's magazines any more. Practially every interview seems to start:

X wafts into the room looking effortlessly gorgeous in Top Shop jeans and no makeup and cheerfully tucks into a bacon sandwich...

Hmm
limitedperiodonly · 13/02/2013 13:15

I agree, hazel.

Talking about your private life isn't the wisest thing but you're right, people like Fern Britton need to do those stories to promote their careers. It's up to them to work out where to draw the line.

Was Ryvita the fat suit thing? In hindsight it was unwise, but people do unwise things, especially when offered money.

I'm not particularly sticking up for Fern Britton but she was treated very nastily and held to a standard of honesty which is ridiculous when you look at her accusers.

FreudiansSlipper · 13/02/2013 13:17

who is one of them

her job at the time was a tv presenter, she is friendly and warm and has the woman next door not to glam, not the threatening persona that might be the way she is it might not be what does it matter its part of her job her personal life is her business

limitedperiodonly · 13/02/2013 13:25

She was actually rather a good tv presenter and interviewer too. But that isn't enough for daytime TV aimed at women.

No one held a gun to her head and she was richly rewarded. But people do invest a lot of nonsense in the people they see on the telly.

limitedperiodonly · 13/02/2013 13:51

And if you'd have read the quotes rather than the cover lines you'd have noticed she was quite cagey about her weight loss and the people doing the 'You can be like Fern!' shit were the magazines.

I know this because I used to have to write the fucking things, week after week from the same old quotes that weren't even given to the magazine I was working on.

Nancy66 · 13/02/2013 14:24

All the stick think female celebs that I can think of are very heavy smokers.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2013 14:50

You CAN be SLIM (I don't like the name of Paul Mckenna's I Can Make You Thin W.O.E.) BUT I have lost nearly 3 stone and am happy with my size 10 figure by going on the Paul Mckenna original (not the newest virtual gastric band thingy).

If you're interested and don't believe me (one of the rules is you can eat anything BTW) come onto our support thread it's about HOW we eat not calorie counting or eating shit food and it effing works!!!.

Maybe some celebs are on it I don't know.

Feminine · 13/02/2013 14:50

There are very , very few truly slim celebs. Its quite easy to spot , their heads always look too big. The media came up with the 'lollypop' head comment didn't they?

Its true though.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2013 14:51

Oh and I have never smoked and did not take it up to lose the weight Grin

Nancy66 · 13/02/2013 14:53

there are TONS of very skinny celebrities! And believe me they don't eat.

atthewelles · 13/02/2013 15:01

I agree Feminine. You can tell when someone is naturally slight and small boned and when someone has slimmed down way past what is normal for them.

StuntGirl · 13/02/2013 15:01

If I knew that restricting my diet and working out every single day would earn me millions I'd be up for doing it too.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2013 15:02

I blame the fashion magazines who still insist on hanging their clothes on effing skeletons, how is that attractive ? It makes me MAD Angry

GrowSomeCress · 13/02/2013 15:04

The diet in the OP seems reasonably realistic and decent to me Grin

ifancyashandy · 13/02/2013 15:05

I've worked with many many female celebs. They do eat. But healthily and normal portions - not huge amounts. Lots of soups, salads, sushi, fruit, other fish, eggs, chicken etc etc etc. Not crisps, chocolate, chips, burger, mayo laden sandwiches etc.

And some smoke, some don't - same as the rest of us. Lots only drink once a week or so. If you're getting up at 5am and not getting home till 9pm earliest 6 days a week, you lay off the booze.

ledkr · 13/02/2013 15:10

When I was skinny I lived on wine and Marlboro lights Grin
I Live it when they say done knee has BALLOONED to 9 stone lol. I'd have to never eat to weigh that.
Also love when they sat vic bec has put on 3 pounds by following a healthy diet. How can they be so specific?
