Sallyingforth · 11/02/2013 23:02

Do they sell it in Waitrose?

space21 · 11/02/2013 23:22

Only meant as a lighthearted thread ... and yet I would still like to see a news report - imagine all the students that have eaten it!

How about a taste test on the new food and drink show?

I live in France - horse meat not readily available chez le Boucher Smile

Neiggghhhh me.

poorbuthappy · 11/02/2013 23:35

Waiting for Asda to confirm its in their children's ready meal lasagne thingys.

And my comment was to dh, "well that would explain everything about our kids wouldn't it?" Grin

Ullena · 11/02/2013 23:53

Findus crispy pancakes were a stable part of my diet growing up...

ImpatientOne · 11/02/2013 23:59

Horse or Donkey meat is a delicacy that my DH really looks forward to when we visit the ILs. His family are all annoyed that it's being referred to as cheap and DH is hopeful that the UK will soon realise what we've all been missing out on or not Grin

Polarstarhope · 12/02/2013 00:01

I may have eaten horse burgers?? Was half way through one the other day before I realised!!! Felt rather queasy afterwards I must admit!! Confused

vivizone · 12/02/2013 00:11

I can't believe this news is not bigger than what it is. Our food is unregulated people. Heads need to roll for this.

What else are we unaware about? I don't trust anything at the moment.

AKissIsNotAContract · 12/02/2013 00:14

It's not horse, it's donkey

Pandemoniaa · 12/02/2013 00:15

For sure, Findus Lasagne wins by a nose.

tiredofwaitingforitalltochange · 12/02/2013 00:17

I don't want this to be taken in the wrong way, but I felt less horrified by the fact that these products are made from horse meat than that they were made from meat from Romania. It made me think of the village in the Borat movie.

Yes, that does sound really bad, doesn't it?

ImpatientOne · 12/02/2013 00:26

No it doesn't tired I completely agree.

I knowingly eat horse and donkey meat by choice, bought from a supplier my MIL trusts not an easy position to be in Grin

Having random meat that's travelled all around Europe before ending up in a mislabelled product is pretty scary, it's a shame people are so distracted by the horse aspect - although I'm enjoying the puns Wink

prudencesmom · 12/02/2013 00:26

Would you feel better if it was zebra then?

AKissIsNotAContract · 12/02/2013 00:31

tired Borat wasn't a documentary Hmm

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/02/2013 00:34

The fact that it's stretched out to Romania does make me think of criminal gangs being involved.

ImpatientOne · 12/02/2013 00:35

As long as it's labelled as what it is we can all make an informed choice.

Morloth · 12/02/2013 04:35

Depending on how long they have been doing it we probably did.

Doesn't bother me, I will eat pretty much anything, but it really should be on the label and they should bloody well know where it has come from!

MrsKeithRichards · 12/02/2013 09:55

Grin at Borat!

Itsnotahoover · 12/02/2013 11:01

Have Findus lasagne actually been recalled? Noticed them in the freezer at my local shop this morning!

WafflesandWhippedCream · 12/02/2013 11:10

Yeah, finding out it came from Romania was the last straw for me too!

redexpat · 12/02/2013 11:51

I have. Seriously. In Denmark. Went to a family party. Was given lasagne. Thought to myself 'this doesnt taste like beef'. Asked Dh who didn't know, asked the cousin who was hosting and he said it was horse. They had one that had died. We shrugged and carried on eating. No ill effects. Wasn't as nice as zebra though.

sneezingwakesthebaby · 12/02/2013 11:53

Well now I feel like a twat. Making jokes about eating horses and then reading the Fail and seeing I have actually eaten horse bloody Tesco spag bol!

movamum · 12/02/2013 11:57

Lived in France for a year and a half and bought horse meat by mistake a few times until my French improved as it does look exactly the same. Didn't want to waste it so went ahead and had it as everyone else does! Tasted fine, just a bit stringy, which you wouldn't notice if it was minced...

Ghostsgowoooh · 12/02/2013 11:57

I've eaten Findus lasagne

They are truly minging
