to find Stephen Fry downright dull and tedious when hosting award shows?

He got right on my thrupenny bits during the BAFTAs last night, droning on and on with his unfunny drivel instead of just flipping well getting on with it. Helena B-C looked very unamused when he made some crappy joke about her bursting into song without even having a drink first - har bloody har Hmm

How on earth can he be considered a 'national treasure' (whatever that means) rather than a vain smug misogynist twit?

I know he's very Marmite so I'm prepared to be flamed Wink

Never liked Fry that much but went right off him when he said he felt sorry for straight men because they have to shag women. Angry

MrsReiver · 11/02/2013 15:42

I find Stephen Fry downright dull and tedious all of the time.

Lottapianos · 11/02/2013 15:43

'Never liked Fry that much but went right off him when he said he felt sorry for straight men because they have to shag women. '

Especially because women don't like sex in the first place, right MamaMary? Hmm

I did think the 'sorry about the facial hair but I am sure I am not the only man here tonight with a beard ' was very funny.

ConferencePear · 11/02/2013 15:46

I never liked him much in the first place, now he's suffering from a serious case of over-exposure.
To say he is better than Jonathan Ross isn't much of a recommendation as far I'm concerned.

Sugarice · 11/02/2013 15:51

Okay Grin, who would be a good host for the British equivalent of the Oscars?

TheOriginalLadyFT · 11/02/2013 15:52

I thought a lot of the presenters were wooden and dull last night - I usually enjoy the BAFTAS, but some of it fell really flat last night and the audience didn't very engaged somehow.

I usually like SF, but he too was rather dull last night and he does rather overegg his jokes.

GetOrf · 11/02/2013 15:53

God knows.

Mark Kermode Grin

GetOrf · 11/02/2013 15:54

I think his tortured and overegged delivery is just not that funny any more.

I think he peaked as Melchett. Grin

He was not as bad as that bloke who is in the new Bourne films and looks like Jeremy Kyle. What was he on about? And Sarah Silverman. How can a funny woman be so unfunny?

mrsjay · 11/02/2013 15:55

could have been worse much worse it could have been jonathan ross wittering on and brown nosing the 'stars' and being v v unfunny, I thought it was a long boring night I guess he was just reading his script I dont mine him going on and on I think he is quite funny

Sugarice · 11/02/2013 15:57

And Simon Pegg was a knob too.

I like Mark Kermode too, I'd have Graham Norton as host but I love anything he does.

BalloonSlayer · 11/02/2013 15:58

God yes he is so pleased with himself, isn't he?

mrsjay · 11/02/2013 15:59

did simon pegg present with sarah sylverman or was that tim roth he looked bored witless

Lottapianos · 11/02/2013 15:59

Agree, they were both weird and unfunny. Grin at 'looks like Jeremy Kyle'. And only looked about 5 feet tall as well Confused

Kermode is fabulous - maybe he and Simon Mayo could co-host? They are a great double act.

mrsjay, I think you're thinking of Tim Roth. I love him but thought he really could have made a bit more effort - he did look like he would rather be sticking pins in his eyes Confused

Damian Lewis was good on Have I Got News for you - he could be worth a crack

Hugh laurie?

Kevin Spacey - not a Brit but he pretty much lives here

Sugarice · 11/02/2013 16:01

Wasn't Pegg with Gemma Arterton?, I can't remember now.

GetOrf · 11/02/2013 16:04

YES at Damian Lewis. he looks very self assured and amusing, as well as being pretty.

Kevin Spacey would be a good idea. Doesn't need to be a Brit. Ricky Gervais did the Golden Globes didn't he (I don't think he could do the Baftas what with being loathed and all).

Get Joan Rivers to do it.

mrsjay · 11/02/2013 16:05

your right and he did look like hed rather have pins stuck in his eyes I was cringing, some of the presenting was pretty dire,

GetOrf · 11/02/2013 16:05

I fell a bit in love with Christoph Waltz. He seemed very sweet.

mrsjay · 11/02/2013 16:06

oh god not ricky gervais I couldn't stand it.

TheOriginalLadyFT · 11/02/2013 16:07

yy to this - Tim Roth couldn't have looked more bored if he'd actually yawned. Pretty rude really - I'm assuming he got paid and it's not actually hard work is it, lovey Hmm

Nancy66 · 11/02/2013 16:07

I thought Christoph Waltz was great - very humble and gracious.

Helena Bonham Carter didn't look too thrilled with Fry calling her an old lush did she?

Sugarice · 11/02/2013 16:07

Not Gervais!!!

Now there's a man who would eat himself if he could, can't abide him.

mrsjay · 11/02/2013 16:09

as we say in scotland, her face was tripping her she was not amused,
