I really do need to get some exercise into my life but I hate it and will use any excuse not to. I am 42 next week and feel the weight creeping on easier than ever. I do not have an inactive lifestyle but need some help and motivation to start. An exercise class is hard to commit to as I work shifts. What works for you?

Join a gym where they do different classes as they have them morning, afternoon and evening. You just go to the ones that are on when you are not working.

Walking, walking and more walking! I bought walking shoes in the Christmas holidays and when I get a couple of hours to myself on my days off or if DH is home early in the evening, I go walking. I hated it at first but love it now and can really see a difference in my size (although my weight annoyingly hasn't dropped more than a few lbs)

30 day shred DVD.
One workout is 20 mins. 30 incl warming up and cooling down.

What motivates me?
It's only half an hour.
I'm fed up with wobbling in places I shouldn't wobble.
I'm fed up with feeling heavy.
I want to be fit.

I think you have to reach your limit though before you'll find your motivation. Good luck.

I also need the kick. I am not overweight (current stress halting my eating) but I am not fit at all. I think I may try walking...
I was thinking of going with DS on his bike but not wanting to outlay for the bike - could power walk while he rides... are there any sports you could do with DC? I rarely have time away from DS /work.
I often wish I worked shifts to do classes when DS was at school. Our local community centre does them at different times.

I do spinning twice a week, I don't particularly look forward to it after being on my feet at work for nine hours, but I'm always glad I've been.

500 calories burnt off in 45 minutes according to my heart rate monitor. That's a bottle of wine! Grin

Also, I read a quote recently which I'm trying to bear in mind.....

Do something you'll thank yourself for in six months time.
