to find my family annoying and patronising (although I accept it is meant kindly)

I am mid-thirties, terminally Grin single. Although I have a lot of friends, they are pretty much all paired up and most have small children/babies or are pregnant! This makes some areas of life difficult as you can imagine and as a result I haven't been on holiday in over a decade despite working as a teacher so holidays should be a perk of the job (I should add here I'm not a big traveller; most of my family are.)

I'm having a couple of days away at half term. I mentioned this to my dad and brother and they immediately responded with, "Well DONE. Good for YOU. It's really good to see you getting out there and enjoying yourself ..."

I'll probably end up drip-feeding despite my best efforts not to but AIBU to feel a bit cross at this?

Ha! That's pretty much my advice, if I have someone say something overtly rude or patronising I tend to descend into laughter - it helps if you have a pretty dark sense of humour anyway, but it's a great way to be assertive without confrontation. Chuck in a sarcastic "thank you" and pat yourself on the head Smile

Most people have the decency to look ashamed!

Thanks Grin I just said something along the lines of "yes I'm pleased too, but can we try not to sound TOO condescending ..."
