Just phoned friend on her mobile and she answered very pissed off as she was asleep and I woke her up, she was on night shift last night. So why not turn your phone off or on silent?! She has form for this and I rarely phone her, now I remember why!

If it had been 6am then fair enough probably best not to call incase its an emergency but to expect people not to phone at gone 11 even on a sunday is madness!

My DH does the occasional night shift, he turns his mobile off and takes the house phone extension out of the bedroom so he's not disturbed.

Makes sense to me. If you don't want disturbing, turn off phone. Are people supposed to be mind readers?

I put mine on silent for sleeping,eating,driving,watching films etc.

Surely if you leave phone on you can expect someone to call usually damn cold callers

Perhaps people should if they don't want to be disturbed. However, we have no landline and leave our phones on 24/7 as DP has elderly parents. My mum is considerate as she knows this so doesn't phone if she thinks we may be in bed. I can irritated when friends text and wake me as they seem to assume that people put their phones on silent at night. I do think at 11am you weren't being unreasonable, unless you knew she was working nights.

But when I worked nights I had to keep my phone on in case the school/nursery rang me

no children, no sick family.

Has working landline that only family and very close friends have number of incase of emergency.
