My daughter(19) works Friday nights until 10:00pm and as the buses around here stop running at 9:30 she usually gets a taxi home.

She booked a taxi for 10:00pm, and finished work and waited outside for it until 11:20pm! She flagged one down in the end. It was only then that she rang the taxi company who informed that they showed up at 10:00pm and she wasn't there and so they left.

She woke up today and has complained that she is now ill (from standing in the cold for an hour and 20 minutes) and that it was the taxi companies fault.

I love my daughter but one of her major flaws is she will always shift the blame onto someone else. Yes the taxi company might be lying but seriously who waits for that long? I would have waited half an hour max.

I think I just more annoyed now that she is complaining that she's ill and won't be going to work now.

Why do you think she stood there all that time OP?

I used this excuse all the time with my Mum whilst living at home ... sometimes the taxi left and I couldn't get one until 3.30am and I was really tired from dancing waiting.

I think she probably went and had a couple and the illness is really a hangover!

19 is quite old enough to get organised, order a taxi at the right time and take appropriate action when it doesn't turn up.

And 19 isn't too young to have a bit of cop-on,there are probably mothers on here that age!

Hmm. I really can't see why anyone would wait that long. I'm assuming she had her mobile phone with her since she rang the taxi firm after she'd flagged down another car? Surely, even if for whatever reason you didn't want to ring and ask why your taxi was so late, you'd at least ring another firm and get another taxi out?

I'm afraid I'm veering towards the went-for-a-drink-and-is-now-hungover school of thought. Before I moved out, I went out one night and woke up with the worst hangover ever, and I dragged myself to work just to avoid the smirky look I knew my dad would have aimed at me had I rung in sick. Incidentally they sent me home anyway, but he'd gone to work himself by then.

I think if it happens again, you have your answer. Even if she was honestly stood there for over an hour, nobody would be daft enough to do it twice.
