To think that weed smoking didn't use to be so blatant

I live in a London suburb, and work in the centre of London. Both near home and work at least once a day I'll find myself walking behind/in the vicinity of someone brazenly smoking weed on the street likes it's a cigarette. And cars often drive past leaving a tell-tale smell behind them.
Does no one actually give a shit any more?

I was thinking this recent too...didn't know if it was just the area I live...the whole neighbourhood smells of weed. But, I like it! Grin

I like cycle back from work, in busy dynamic city centre, and passing through the wall of smoke....different pace/people stood about chatting....it makes me grin and remember to stop and smell the flowers (man)! Peace out Grin

Seriously, if the police mocked everyone for weed smoking....there would be no-one left here!

NuzzleMyScratch · 08/02/2013 21:57

Doesn't it worry you, the number of people in charge of cars, kids, jobs that are stoned?

No more so than the worry of the number of people in charge of cars, kids, jobs who are drunk.

OP, brazen public weed-smoking was prevalent if not de rigeur in certain parts of Manchester during the late 80s - early 90s. Some of the pubs were positively Amsterdamian in allowing joints to be smoked openly. Happy days ;)

Stangirl · 08/02/2013 22:19

I've lived in London since 87 and have always smelt it on the streets. Makes me all wistful these days...

Me too stan Sad

We used to get merrily stoned in a discrete corner of the college bars. I
haven't had any weed for years but get the occasional craving for a joint.

I smell people smoking weed in the street and my old next door neighbour used to prop himself against the wall watching the world go by joint in hand.

I can't get that worked up about it and I guess the cops have got better things than do than bust adults for having the odd recreational puff.

Weed smoking has been unofficially decriminalised in many parts of the country. Police resources are stretched and since most stoners are too chilled to commit crimes (apart from the one they are inherently committing), they are left alone. They'd have to nick half the population!

I miss getting stoned. But can't hack the schizo weed. Bring back sticky black I say!

ILoveTIFFANY · 09/02/2013 08:23

Our local councillor smokes it.... Brazenly.

MoreBeta · 09/02/2013 08:24

There is a gradual move in the USA to decriminalise it too in various individual states.

In fact the state Govts are desperate for the cash the main driver is to begin to allow it to be taxed like cigarettes - but they have to decriminalise it first before they can tax it.

BarredfromhavingStella · 09/02/2013 08:44

Don't think it's any more prevalent now than when I was a caned teen in the 90's.
