Apparently there will be a range of Parenting Experts there to guide you on the many aspects of babydom.

And plug their shite.no doubt.

I want to take along a big noisybell.and a sandwich board that reads

"You dont need a cot or a baby bath or.a weird sucky net finger food thing" on the front and "crap.car seat fitters" on the back.

Yanbu sounds shit!

YANBU. My DD is 9 yo. I am 31 weeks pg with DS.

I bought EVERYTHING from Mothercare when pregnant with DD because it was the only place I knew.

I went in to look at moses baskets. I saw a crib. I looked at a cot. As a totally clueless new mum-to-be, I thought I needed all 3 items. The sales assistant didn't try and point out that all 3 would be very unnecessary.

It was also very expensive for everything - clothes to prams to breast pads etc.

With DS, I have bought nothing from Mothercare, I have discovered Kiddicare.com and Babies R Us. I have compared all 3 and ended up getting most stuff at Babies R Us (in fairness, it is a stones throw away from home).

I hate the way new parents are brain-washed into 'essentials' and half of the stuff will never be used.

This is P's first child, so he falls into the 'newbie' category. Luckily he has me, a cynical old 2nd timer, to draw him back from the shiny/pretty things and endless gadgets on offer Grin

Why no to a cot? Confused

Agree with everything else though.

Yeah, why no to a cot? I appreciate some people co-sleep, but a cot is a pretty staple baby item for overwhelming (maybe not the MN) majority surely?
But yes to the other stuff!

PoppyWearer · 07/02/2013 21:23

I'm about to sell our cot. DC2 is nearly 18mo and won't fecking well sleep in it. We've managed fine with a Moses basket and then in a big bed.

BrianCoxandTheTempleofDOOM · 07/02/2013 21:23

no, sorry - I meant that yes to a cot AND a moses basket or a cot AND a crib. Not a Cot, moses basket AND a crib, which is what I thought you needed Blush

somedayma · 07/02/2013 21:28

What's the weird net sucky thing?!

MortifiedAdams · 07/02/2013 21:34

I said "you dont need a cot" because a lot of people.dont and I feel.places like this never seem to realise there is an alternative.

net weaning thingumy

£400 on a cot. 5 years later and not one of the little buggers has laid their arse in it. Is it too late to take it back?

Softlysoftly · 07/02/2013 21:37

I liked the net weaning thingy, even for DD2. [Blush]

LST · 07/02/2013 21:38

But most people do need a cot. In fact everyone I know used a cot for at least 2 years.

Ds was in a moses basket for about 15 hours before we put him in the cot.

SirBoobAlot · 07/02/2013 21:44

YABU. I've run a breastfeeding stall a few times there, and all the parents I've spoken to have always been really grateful. Obviously things are on sale etc, but there are stalls from various people which are helpful. Last one I did there was me, someone giving out information about slings and carriers, a couple of fire service members giving out safety advice, someone there explaining about various groups and play schemes in the area, a lot of which are free.

BrianCoxandTheTempleofDOOM · 07/02/2013 21:52

SirBoob things have changed in 9 years....that does sound helpful (obvioulsy you have to have the presence of mind to go in and not be sidetracked by the 'buy, buy, buy' urges though Grin)

OP - dur, sorry I thought the 'no cot' comments were in response to my post.

I really do not know how you would cope without a cot though. I did co-sleep with DD (although back then it was called 'getting baby in bed with me' Grin), she also had a moses basket. We used moses basket til 4 months at which point she decided she hated the cot and would come to bed with me. She went in it eventually at 13 months and was in the cot until 2...ish (memory very vague now).

somedayma · 08/02/2013 00:47

that net weaning thing is disgusting!
