She only got to Page 35 before mentioning Greggs sausage rolls.

Come on out yourself.

Of all the things I've ever read on Mumsnet I think that birthday table thread is one that has always stuck with me, in a haunty kind of way. And Boco was so awesome in the way she posted about it.

My dh loves Caitlin more than I do. But I am trying to emulate her lovely grey streak.

FlouncingMintyy · 08/02/2013 11:04

Bit early for sherry isn't it Pag? Even on a Friday Shock.

Alittlestranger · 08/02/2013 11:05

CM has said that she left MN because there are no men here, whereas she can flirt on twitter.

At least that's the official reason. Probably it comes down to the LOLS and the huns.

Pagwatch · 08/02/2013 11:15

It's true Mintyy. [sigh]

Absy · 08/02/2013 11:23

She's how I ended up on MN. There used to be a times blog called Alphamummy, that she and others contributed to and she used to mention MN all the time. So, I had a look and stayed.

TheMightyLois · 08/02/2013 11:27

Ooooohh that sounds familiar Absy - I think that's how I ended up here too.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/02/2013 11:38

Ahem - I have no idea who Caitlin Moran is.

limitedperiodonly · 08/02/2013 12:03

I can't bear Zoe Williams. Or Tanya Gold. Caitlin Moran is annoying and India Knight is an unspeakable twat. Think that covers Female Columnists I Hate for the moment.

FlouncingMintyy · 08/02/2013 12:15

Got any that you actually like, limited? Grin

ubik · 08/02/2013 12:18

I really liked Lucy Mangan - I am also a book geek and I loved her series on children's books. But she's got s bit worthy since she had the nipper, and now has moved to Surrey or somewhere 'naice.'

I've always admired women who are confident enough to just be themselves without trying to please others all the time - something I used to catch myself doing alot, but as I get older I get more cantankerousasserive

Don't think Suzanne Moore or Barbara Ellen have ever annoyed me mintyy.

Also I hate Hadley Freeman and the made-up fashion problem page she does so she can do social commentary with a quirky twist.

Oh, and Allison Pearson.

Absy · 08/02/2013 13:57

I love Caitlin. I wish she was back here, so we could have larks. I dream of having a boozy night out involving karaoke with her.

FlouncingMintyy · 08/02/2013 14:10

Oh yes I love Barbara Ellen.

drjohnsonscat · 08/02/2013 14:28

Agree re Tanya Gold. I don't think she's good enough tbh. But will stand by Zoe. I think she's clever - and not afraid to be clever. She wrote a review in Guardian Review (I think about Aftermath or some other overwrought thing) which was just well-read and clever and more readable than most of Guardian Review

She has Caitlin's way of getting to the very heart of an issue in a pithy way - but without her sometimes offputting way of it being all about Caitlin and her fun family.

Zoe, if you can hear me, just send me a message

drjohnsonscat · 08/02/2013 14:30

Also like Lucy Mangan and her tales of her mother's tea towel useage rules.

Can't really be bothered with Barbara Ellen. Do really like Janice Turner.

Anyone else? That poster called MargeProops shoudl really be on this thread.

ubik · 08/02/2013 14:35

I really like..is it Marina Hyde?? She write for the The Guardian, usually the Lost on Showbiz column, she has a great turn of phrase, very funny.

Also Racheal something - she does the Art reviews in The Guardian and sometimes the Observer foodie bit. She gets very snippy but I really love the art reviews when she thinks it's all a bit shite. And her interviews where she falls out with the celeb.

ginslinger · 08/02/2013 14:38

the bloody christmas of moldies. I'm sure that my family thought that I was having an affair because I kept excusing myself to 'check something'.

drjohnsonscat · 08/02/2013 14:38

oh Rachel Cook? or Cooke?

Yes I like her. She had a quote on Wolf Hall which I loved - something along the lines of "Wolf Hall is not just a depiction of Thomas Cromwell. Hilary Mantel actually becomes Thomas Cromwell" which got right to the heart of why I thought that book was amazing.

SwedishEdith · 08/02/2013 14:45

Wasn't Rachel Cook the one who said she couldn't possibly have children when there were so many books left to read - something like that. She sounded a bit of an idiot when she said.

Bought the CM book (in a charity shop) but cannot bring myself to read it due to CM's very annoying face on the cover. Dumped her on Twitter - booooooring

drjohnsonscat · 08/02/2013 14:48

I quite like people who don't want children and say so. I don't like people who say "breeders" (yes you annoying Hannah thingy who is v beautiful apparently, from the Times) but I like the idea of thinking I don't want to because I have too many books to read.

Disclaimer: I love my children and don't love books more than them but Wolf Hall is more interesting than my three year old at times.

SwedishEdith · 08/02/2013 14:52

There was a bit of an anti-children tone to it though, I seem to have chosen to recall

AmandaPayne · 08/02/2013 14:53

I quite like Janice Turner. Didn't she get in trouble for saying something on MN and then saying it again in a column and people thought she'd nicked it. Was that her?

I used to love CM, but have got rid of her on Twitter, all that chatting to Lauren Lavern and India Knight. It's a bit like the cool girls in the six form who have their conversations really loudly, but won't let anyone else join in. A private conversation, but really loudly in public. why?

drjohnsonscat · 08/02/2013 14:54

I was probably in a bad mood that day and could see her point Grin

GrandPoohBah · 08/02/2013 15:01

I love your sentiment re. your 3yo, DJC. I feel like that about DH sometimes too.

It's ok, he understands. Santa He bought me a mug which says 'Go Away, I'm Reading' on it for Christmas, it was my favourite present!

Trills, if you've read most of CM's stuff in the Times (tv reviews, CW plus column) and have a memory, I wouldn't buy the book. I felt a bit shafted to be honest - I already pay to get past the paywall and then I paid again to read articles I'd already seen.
