to think samples should be free

I am looking for tissue paper to buy in bulk and found some that I liked and saw that they also sent out samples. I only wanted 1 sample of 1 colour and they tried to charge me £5! For a massive pack of 480 sheets it's only £10.40! What the actual fuck to be honest? I told them not to bother and ordered a sample from elsewhere!

yanbu. however am sure if it was somewhere that had to post you the sample they need to cover costs but that sounds way to much.

Years ago you could get terriffic samples of all kinds of paper.

A friend of mine doing a degree in some sort of design thing got through her course almost entirely on samples.

With the internet making requests so simple, and rising postage costs, I don't think sending samples to individuals is very cost effective.

Saying that, I needed some coloured perspex squares for a light table and saved a fortune by ordering about 23 samples at a time, so I think some companies are better able to absorb the costs. It's just a question of looking around.

Yes I agree. I was looking on ebay at fabric and noticed some nice stuff but with price about £2.75 to £78.50. The £2.75 was for a 10cm square sample. I thought that was both misleading (because it came up as the cheapest) and ridiculously expensive for that size sample. (The largest amount was for around 30m).
