AIBU to expect LinkedIn's &^$%£ security to work?

So fed up.

I don't know if anyone else checks their security on LinkedIn - but I set up a fake profile to check security and realised that everything is visible, despite it being on the highest security settings. I'm cross because a lot of the stuff I have done in the past, though very pertinent, won't be seen as such by the new 'customers' I am targeting.

So, I deleted the account and started again. This was a total pain as I had to reconnect with everyone and rejoin groups. Guess what? Same thing happened.

Oh yes, forgot to say ... I called and e-mailed LinkedIN. They only have an option for journalists if you call them and they did not respond to e-mails.

I hear you there, I can't even get in to mine, joined it about 100 years ago, put something flippant on it and now I can't get my own name back. Not that bothered because there are more relevant places for my work to be seen on, but still, it's my name.

Why can't you get in to it? Do they not send out password reminders? I know someone else who can't get into theirs.

Surely there must be some dataprotection act covering this - I'm sure they can't get away with this shoddiness much longer Angry

I too thought that having everything on the highest security setting, meant that only your connections could view relevant information (like current position etc).

This is quite important to me, as psycho ex-H is prone to stalking episodes, and I have in the past had to involve the police.

I was a bit gobsmacked when I googled my name last year, and a fair amount of my LinkedIn info appeared totally public!

So don't use it. It's not required and plenty of people don't.

But the point of LinkedIn is to allow people to create a network with people they don't already know. That can only happen if things are visible.

I know everyone on my network....and I use it when I am looking for new clients.
