Why would ex need ds passport number?

Just had a text. No info just asking for the number?

Ask X? DP has wanted his boys' passport numbers in the past to set up savings accounts, holidays etc.

Or being paranoid, to fill in a form declaring his passport lost so he can get a new one and keep it.

If you want to ask but not look like you're asking say that you put it 'somewhere', but you're busy. Is it urgent? if so you'll look.

Unless he'd just say 'yes it's urgent' as the reply; in which case ask what it's for as it'll be a faff for the next couple of days to go looking.

Sorry should have given more details. Ex hasnt given any details in text and it isn't worth the hassle I would get asking. Just wondered if there was anything obvious other than leaving the country that I hadn't thought of?

To report it lost , so a replacement can be ordered.

I had to ask for me ex's passport number for my DS's passport application. He and his then partner didn't believe me though and refused to give it or even tell me it had expired. Not sure why in your case though, does the adult passport application form ask for passport numbers of any children?

I would ask. Does he have a holiday booked with DS? If he has then a lot of airlines ask for the number when you book online, I know easyjet does even though you don't really need to fill it in as they do it at the airport anyway.
If he doesn't have a holiday booked why would he need it?

How old is ur son? Is there regular contact?

The only reasons I can think of as to why he would need the Passport number is to book a holiday (and maybe subsequent Visa's or ESTA) or to replace the Passport.

A savings account would need sight of the actual passport/birth certificate. I can't think of anything where just the number would do.

Find out which bank, to check. And write yourself to the passport office to request that no replacement is issued as your son is resident with you and his passport is not lost.

Say you can't find it but will happily send a copy of the birth cert as a bank will accept that. Send that text tomorrow as you are OBVIOUSLY looking hard for it right now.

I have set up saving accounts for both my DC when they were few months old and was never asked for passport numbers. Would imagine that not many young babies have passports anyway so no way its going to be a deciding factor in opening a savings account.

Do you have a strained relationship with ex? Why would he lie about something like this? Sounds a bit iffy to me.

Only ever used the numbers to replace passport or book flights.

Never to open an account.

If you are worried about him arranging things without you - can you 'lose' the passport around someone's house (mother, best friend) and then delay the whole getting a replacement thing, drag you heels, keep forgetting (well it's not important right now), can't find the number 'I'm sure I wrote it somewhere sensible but...'
