To wonder if I need to write an accompanying letter (nursery school)

I am filling in the application today for a nursery place for DD at a local faith school. I am not applying for a foundation place, so I have their standard open place forms which do not have any space to put anything but bare facts. Would it be sensible to write an accompanying letter stating why I would like DD to attend the school (although not sure what to say), or would this just get binned and I should just send the forms back? Any advice appreciated. DH and I are new to this and dont have any peers/relatives who have gone through this yet.

unless its to explain some medical or learning issue i wouldnt bother tbh. perhaps hand deliver it and say something along the lines of you hope to hear from them soon as you and your dd think she would be very happy there.

I definitely would. I did it with Dd's school application and she got into our first choice school that is slightly outside our catchment area. Don't know if it was just luck, but you've got nothing to lose.

I wrote things like how the school was within walking distance and we would not add to car traffic by driving. I also mentioned how dd had many friends from nursery already attending the school and she wouldn't feel out of place.

Depends on the criteria they use for admission. The nursery school near us uses the same criteria as school. Some nurseries take children in age or waiting list order.

Unless your child has very specific requirements I wouldn't bother with writing a letter.

Thanks for the responses, its very helpful. Its so competitive round here for nursery places. I asked another mother who I know is applying to some of the same as me and she said "Why should I help you, you are my competition". Feel I am not clued up enough or competitive enough.

I would read the admissions requirements, and make sure all the correct forms are completed in the correct way. An additional letter should only be needed if there are medical or SN grounds.

Do also be aware that a place at nursery (in England) does not mean you will get one for school.
