to think that facebook is not the right medium to tell people they've lost their jobs?

My DH has just found out, via facebook, that his factory is closing today with all jobs lost. This is going to be an interesting evening isn't it?

What the fuck is going on in the world. Are MD's and CEO's so cowardly that they can't tell their staff face to face any more?

Cunts.

Just come through that they've issued a winding up notice on the company DH works for. Looks like they've separated it off from the other part of the business so they can treat it like a separate company, even though it was the same one up to last week.
Sigh.

Hmm, still take legal advice or speak to CAB, it's a terrible way to treat people :(

Sorry to hear that. The government do have a scheme to pay out redundancy from i think. Hopefully there will be information provided to you DH about it.

Like Bogeyface my dads company resurrected the next day, slightly different name and owned by the wives of the former owners. Bought for £1.

It's contemptible behaviour, but yes, legal somehow.

It's called phoenixing, and is more common than you think, esp. in some industries.

Sometimes, for any part of a company to survive, it's the only way - split, bump the 'deadwood' and carry on - but it's a shit thing to do to the employees.

Business owners will say it's part or all, so save what you can. I say that it should have never been allowed to get that far without the business being fairly wound up in all areas.

Unfortunately, it is legal.

Tailtwister · 05/02/2013 16:42

How awful, I'm so sorry.

DH has been made redundant 3 times and it's happened to me twice. It's so shit.

You'll both be in shock for a few days. It will take some time to sink in, so try to be kind to yourselves.

NothingIsAsBadAsItSeems · 05/02/2013 17:32

He still should have had a consultation period and should still get redundancy pay if they are not being offered positions at the other part of the company.

Regardless of phoenixing being legal if the company doesn't do the above it should be classed as unfair dismissal.

Your DH should seek legal advice

Oh poor you op, how shitty of them and awful for you both.

Thinking of you.. Been there and it's bloody vile xxx
