I had a previous mil whom I see a lot and get on with really well. However have been with dh 13 years, and was reading the thread about what pil's cook for meals.

Well I have never ever had a meal cooked by mil. She cam to stay this weekend. Sat down the ENTIRE weekend. Not one offer of help, or even to make a drink. Never ever moved from sofa...ever.... Somehow manages to devour all biscuits and crisps and leaves wrappers everywhere but NEVER offers to help with anything. Dh and I both ill, but still she just sat there.......is it me?

Thank you oranges and Gogo for sympathy. It was horrible at the time, but in retrospect, the best thing that could have happened for us Smile.

Sorry for taking over your thread a bit oranges, not my intention but any mention of lazy mil's is bound to get me going!

They behave like this as no one calls them on it. If the keep getting away with it they'll carry on, as obviously they're doing no wrong.

My ex MIL was like this.. she would sit in the same spot with her handbag on her knee all the time she was visiting, only getting up for the loo, food and outings.

She would get cold not moving and would always ask if 'the pipes' were on. She once asked if the (horrible) little fan heater with fake plastic coals was working. DH put the light on that lit up the coals and she was happy for a while

Yeah, mil gets cold through not moving, although she eats enough crap to keep the fuel in her burning at full pelt.
