The title says it all really. I've been looking at jobs and when I've read the job description several are only advertised as being 3 hours per week. Is this not alot of nonsense or AIBU?

What sort of jobs? Probably not that odd for a cleaner.

StrawberryQuik · 04/02/2013 17:53

YAB a bit U I think.

3/4h a week sounds perfect for
a) a sixth former looking for their first job
b) a student needing beer money
c) A healthy pensioner or SAHM who don't need to work but fancy getting out of the house.

I usually have one or two 'little' jobs on the go alongside my main (two) jobs OP Grin

I like the flexibility of small and often. I am a bookkeeper if that helps you understand; I have one employer for whom I work 7 hours per month at the moment, its my favourite work day each month!

MunchkinsMumof2 · 04/02/2013 17:57

I'd happily do a job that was 3-4 hours week as I am c) on strawberry list but need to be around for my Ds.

ThingummyBob · 04/02/2013 17:59

I can think of:

Cleaner/domestic help
Bookkeeper
Doorstaff
Handyman/woman (person obvs but I can't get my head around the actual word handywoman Blush)
Gardener

as a few off the top of my head that might need someone for 3 or 4 hours a week!

I am in contact with a lot of people who are contracted for these 3/4 hours per week jobs. (I also know a few who are contracted zero hours). in reality, Their actual hours worked are generally full time but by the companies doing it this way, they are able to get away with only paying minimal holiday leave and sick pay. It is also easier to reduce their hours to what they are contracted to do if the employer decides that they want to cut staff down (as generally people that go from 30 hrs to 3 cannot afford to live so look elsewhere for a position).
