AIBU?

To complain about the receptionist?

It's actually a problem my sister has asked my advice on. Yesterday she called the doctor I arrange to have someone trim the threads of her coil as her DH had we stubbed his toe, so to speak. The receptionist advised her she didn't need to see a doctor or nurse for that and that she could do it herself. When she enquired how, thinking perhaps there must be some device she was unaware of, the receptionist replied 'well with some scissors of course'. ISBU to think she should complain about this blatantly dangerous advice?

eeew and owww! surely the receptionist doesn't understand what a coil is, nd exactly where it goes? and definitely should not be handing out advice as per her own wrong ideas. Not exactly like slipping the strings of a tampax is it... how exactly was she supposed to get the nail scissors up there and randomly start hacking at her insides. mind boggles. defo complain and also tell us what a doctors reaction is to this foolery!

What awful advice, on the plus side the strings do soften up over time but at first they will be stabby even if they are shorter.

Uhhh, how did you think the dr was going to trim the threads? Presumably he/she would use scissors?"

Yeah, but they would also have this thing called a view.

And an appropriate long skinny pair of scissors to go with the actual view!

Pleased to say that the receptionist at my GP's doesn't ask what the appointment's for.
She surely must have thought the threads were dangling out and visible. Perhaps she was new/training. I once worked for social services and heard someone newly employed on an admin type apprenticeship giving 'advice' over the phone.

Oh and yes, complain.

It'd be like ringing up and getting Boris Johnson on the phone. About anything.
