To wonder how a 12yo managed to walk/run 1.3 miles at 12:35 am?

Last Friday DS1 went to play at a friend's house. As he was leaving I reminded him to take a watch, so he could make sure he was back on time. he did, but it was only much later that I realised the watch he had "forgotten" to bring home was my Garmin GPS watch for running. He has been dealt with!

DS1 went to get it back on Sunday, but it couldn't be found until today. His friend has clearly been having lots of fun with it, all my settings have been changed Angry (technophobe, it will take me ages to put them right Grin ) including changing the user details to his (DS's friends's) birthday and weight.

The watch records all distances covered, the speed and the time. It has been used a lot, but one of the "runs" was 1.3 miles at 12:35 on Saturday morning!

Well done him. Treadmill? OTS?

duchesse · 01/02/2013 20:49

Maybe it went in the car somewhere with a parent?

scaevola · 01/02/2013 20:50

If it is like a pedometer, which goes by regular jerks, then it doesn't take that much thought to work out what was being done by a boy in the middle of the night, moving his arm/hand like that...

duchesse · 01/02/2013 20:51

Or if he's anything like my boy was, just simply shaking it to see how "far" he could go before he got tired.

Or he changed the clock along with everything else.

feministefatale · 01/02/2013 21:01

how many wanks equals a mile do you reckon? Confused [horrified]

AdriftAndOutOfStardust · 01/02/2013 21:03

It may not have actually been 12:35 if the clock got reset during some of the mucking about. My phone claims all my christmas photos were taken in August because I dropped it early on in the day and the battery came out and I didn't notice the date had reset till the evening.

scae you have a dirty mind, shame on you Wink but a GPS thing would go by physical position in the world not simple shakes.

nannyof3 · 01/02/2013 21:05

The parents?!

cumfy · 01/02/2013 22:35

YABU to not use 24 hr clock.Grin

If he's been fiddling with the settings it could have been at any time.

rhondajean · 01/02/2013 23:29

Garmins don't work like pedometers, they track you by satellite and you have to turn them on when you start.

I reckon the car ride is correct, and he (or a parent) has been playing with it.

GingerBlondecat · 02/02/2013 04:12

Umm hate to tell you lovely folks this but a mile isn't all that far and anything before 3 am isn't all that early, even for a 12 yr old.

Just saying Grin

Thingymajigs · 02/02/2013 06:02

1.3 miles is a 10 minute walk so we needn't be too impressed with his athletic prowess. That is a weird time though, I'm assuming its the settings changes too.

Bilbobagginstummy · 02/02/2013 06:15

1.3 miles is more like 25 mins walk.

But why shouldn't he have done it in the middle of the night?

DolomitesDonkey · 02/02/2013 06:26

Howling at the thought of going for a "ten mile wank" ouch! Grin

Just what I thought Grin

Thingymajigs · 02/02/2013 06:34

Oh yes, so it is bilbo. (Just checked on Google maps). Perhaps a 10 min run. Although my own 12 year old can barely be bothered to walk to the shower most days, let alone run in the middle of the night.

Enfyshedd · 02/02/2013 20:55

1.3 miles takes 25mins to walk? You should have told me that when I was 11/12. I managed a 2.5 mile walk through the snow to get home from school because I didn't trust the rickety school buses - took me 30 mins and that's including nearly a mile of it up a steep hill.

Maybe one of DSs friend's parents decided to use it when they went out for a jog?

TheInnerSea · 03/02/2013 16:43

Enfyshedd I think the mileage in that story has been exaggerated over time Wink . 2.5 miles in 30 mins is 12 min per mile. 15 mins per mile is a very brisk (flat) walk. 12 mins per mile is a reasonable jogging pace.

I know, I have the technology Grin
