Peter Kay that is. Someone bought us his DVD for Christmas. The tour that doesn't tour tour.
IMO, it should be the actual show, not his jaunt around the country. Possibly it's his management company, but I am doubtful. I've spoken to three people who know him IRL.
He is renowned for being short in the arm, long in the pocket.
AIBU to think that something advertised as his stage show, should show that?

I remember him when he used to be funny.

CheCazzo · 01/02/2013 05:38

He was ever funny?

MrsDoomsPatterson · 01/02/2013 05:39

He thinks he's funny.

Numberlock · 01/02/2013 06:05

At the time, I thought Phoenix Nights was funny.

Lighthousekeeping · 01/02/2013 06:23

Oh, it was. They start of fab and then you just get sick of the sight of them. Like Ricky Gervais.

MikeLitoris · 01/02/2013 06:24

I loved peter Kay until I went to see that show live.

Barely even managed a giggle.

bleedingheart · 01/02/2013 06:29

Phoenix Nights was brilliant, he peaked too soon, the stand up is dated now.

Gingerdodger · 01/02/2013 06:33

I went to that show and it was such poor value for money. Whilst very funny in places it was so short, so expensive and lacked any kind of intimacy due to the size of the venue. Felt like it was all about money. Then someone bought me the book which was just repetition of the same jokes.

Phoenix Nights was very funny (but this was also due to the others who were in it). I also saw him in The Producers where he was hilarious, so bit of a mixed bag really.

redexpat · 01/02/2013 08:15

I really liked That Peter Kay thing. But I never got into Phoenix Nights.

ripsishere · 01/02/2013 08:18

Phoenix nights was inspired. The DVD was shite.
DD thinks he is the funniest thing in the world. Even she was angry.

He was very funny once upon a time.

I also know someone who knows him in real life and says he's a tightfisted control freak.

MrsPennyapple · 01/02/2013 08:27

I love Phoenix Nights but his stand up just seems to be the same stuff churned out over and over again. I've pretty much lost any respect for him after seeing numerous interviews where he has gone out of his way to spoil jokes they've set up.

TheDeadlyDonkey · 01/02/2013 08:30

I thought he was brilliant until he was on the One Show, and spent the whole time taking the piss out of Adrian Chiles. He came across as a complete twat.

MaxPepsi · 01/02/2013 08:32

We've got that DVD, it's of one of the shows?? Confused

We actually went to Sheffield to see it. Hilarous. My DH and friends DH almost passed out from laughing so much.
Other friends went to see it also and found it hilarious.

I like him. Had no idea about him having short arms though, although now I know it doesn't really surprise me!

ripsishere · 01/02/2013 08:36

Thedeadley. I remember that interview. My lovely poor Ade. He should have punched him.
I did consider taking DD to MEN arena to see him. We lived quite close. It was about 95 quid a ticket. I love her dearly, but that is more than a couple of packets of fags.

MrsPennyapple · 01/02/2013 08:47

Wow, £95 is a bit steep!

He also does one of the voices on Roary the Racing Car, and it quite often has PK jokes slotted in. Makes me think it's just supposed to remind us all how funny he is. A bit desperate.

fluffyraggies · 01/02/2013 08:52

Love his stand up piece about dunking biscuits! LMAO. I always think of that when i think of him.

I think allot of comedians are have a dark personality off stage.

Sparklingbrook · 01/02/2013 08:56

Amarillo was his finest hour. Max and Paddy was v funny. That's about it though.

GetOrf · 01/02/2013 08:57

I thinl he is ghastly. Seems very cruel.

And dismally unfunny really. Do you remember how awful he was on the Brits a few years back?

Bogeyface · 01/02/2013 09:01

A friend of H's bought the VIP tickets to take his mum to this as she really likes PK and they both felt that it was an utter rip off. He spent an absolute fortune on tickets, travel etc and said they would have been better off staying in and watching one of his old DVD's.

Lighthousekeeping · 01/02/2013 12:02

Funnily I've heard Johnny Vegas is very sweet and generous. You never can tell.

DeWe · 01/02/2013 12:30

Who?

Nancy66 · 01/02/2013 12:34

I have also heard that he is very unpleasant in real life.

However I do think he has been very funny in the past and Phoenix Nights was brilliantly funny and original.

survivingwinter · 01/02/2013 12:35

Must admit I'm a trifle shocked by the fact he's controlling and tight fisted - I hadn't thought of him like that.

I do think he's lost his edge though as I really liked Phoenix Nights and his early stand up stuff but not found him as funny of late.

EnjoyResponsibly · 01/02/2013 12:40

I like his specials for CIN: Amarillo and the thing with all the kids characters.

Otherwise meh.

Better than that cock Gervais though.
