To have a fb cull of...

...Any friends making anti English/Scottish references?

Quite frankly, I'm sick of it. It's racism. (This is in some part related to watching Braveheart tonight).

I am Scottish but have lived for many years in England. One particular friend makes regular comments about English f*ers/ puts up 'jokes' about how Scots are better, etc. We have known each other 38yrs and I have told her I find these comments unfair and derogatory. We have argued about it and she apologised and promised not to mention it again (but has).

Having said that, I have several English anti Scots friends. They offend me equally. (We are a 'drain on the English economy', a nation of alcoholics and wife beaters).

AIBU to delete them or should I let them know I'm pissed off? Tricky with the friend I went to play group with (when we were tiny) but I've run out of excuses not to see her socially!! Hmm

Just hide their feeds. Then there is no awkwardness about defriending them and you don't have to read what they write.

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2013 23:38

I don't see why you would have anyone on your list who annoys you that much?

Personally I wouldn't make a wanky announcement though about a cull

Just do it.

I like both ideas!!

I have considered a status saying such like. For some reason I found it easier to be vocal about (the few) comments about my Ex partner (who is black), than this. I don't know if it was because it seemed more like a personal attack than a whole race.

It just pisses me off so much!! In England I can defend myself if called a 'sweaty sock' and am not adverse to a debate on Scottish independence (to which my arse hurts from being on the fence), but ridiculous comments from some people that have barely travelled beyond their own back yard? GTF!!

I think it's nice that English and Scots are secure enough that they can have a bit of banter with each other people getting hurt. Obviously when it turns nasty than that isn't nice at all, but that really doesn't happen very often.

Just saw your comment Moo. I find it a bit tricky with old school friends. I don't see them socially but am from a teeny town and it feels rude to delete them for no reason. Awkward.....

I'm Welsh and English (and part Irish) and am also really sick of the comments that fly both ways, but (even though I'm mostly Welsh) I have to say the Welsh are the more racist of my fb 'friends'. Been thinking about culling, but have had a few choice words with the worst offenders and I feel that if they knew I'd unfriended them they would revert to type - as I've found calling them out as racist has stopped some of the nastiness. I hate it though OP - gives me a really sad feeling about being a mongrel Sad

fackinell · 30/01/2013 00:08

Harriet, it doesn't seem like banter at times...Hmm

Seen, you're not a mongrel, you're multi-racial (and sound fab, btw) Grin

Ha - thank you...that cheered my multi-racial self up! Grin

I'm English, brought up in Wales and now living back in England.

The childish put downs and stupid comments you get on either side of the border annoy me too.
