To think this is pathetic behaviour from a professional broadcaster?

Sheila Fogarty freaking out because there is a mouse in the studio.

Pathetic IMO, and makes women look bad. In WW2 the news presenter continued reading the news while Broadcasting House took a direct hit from a bomb. How far we have fallen since then!

That guy who yelled "Oh! The Humanity!" while the Hindenberg burned got fired for losing his composure.

HollyBerryBush · 29/01/2013 23:28

Blimey - there are enough phobics populating this board to make suriphobia look mainsteam.

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2013 23:29

YANBU

But then I still can't get over the amount of people who claim to have a 'phobia' of spiders, yet they never seek help...just get their DPs to deal with it.

No-one bloody likes these things but it's part of life and something we all have to deal with.

If it limits your life to the point where you're that scared, you should seek help.

Harriet35 · 29/01/2013 23:29

The hindenburg guy was fairly restrained compared to Sheila. She reminds me of the black woman in Tom and Jerry.

I heard that on the (BBC Radio 2) news tonight. Poor woman can't help it if she's phobic, and I don't think she (or any other individual) makes "women look bad". Yabu and unsympathetic.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 29/01/2013 23:30

Pathetic and making women look bad? Because she has a phobia? Hmm

I guess I should get over all my fears just in case I give all women a bad name too.

DumSpiroSpero · 29/01/2013 23:32

Squealing initially probably understandable.

Going on and on about and cutting short the interview - not so much.

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2013 23:35

Fears and phobias are two different things Missy

Far too many people imo claim to have a phobia when actually they're just scared and could actually push themselves to do something about it.

Those who do have genuine phobias can still do something about it.

Many people however, just choose to have other people running around after them instead.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 29/01/2013 23:41

I read somewhere earlier that she was mouse-a-phobic (don't know the technical name Grin)

People can get over their fears and phobias but I suspect they would have to be given some warning and prepare themselves rather than just get over it because its inconvenient to be scared.

Birdsgottafly · 29/01/2013 23:44

I have a geuine phobia and it does impact on my life, but i cannot afford to do anything about it.

Curing a phobia can cost a fortune.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 29/01/2013 23:44

How often do BBC presenters find themselves confronted with their phobias at work? She may never have been presented with a mouse in her own home before, and so had no need to "do something about it".

I used to have a fear of spiders. Once, I accidentally picked one up. I had very vivid nightmares afterwards, to the point I made dh help me strip the bed completely (including flipping the mattress) in the middle of the night, because I'd dreamt there was one in the bed. Totally irrational behaviour, of course.

When I had DS1 I was determined not to pass my irrational fear on, and forced myself to ignore the buggers; but I had a reason to do that. I'm now sufficiently relaxed that I am embarrased by the cobwebs on my ceiling. Blush

But this poor woman may not have had that experience. If she's scared, she's scared. And suggesting that by being scared she somehow let down 52% of the world's population is definitely U.

DevaDiva · 29/01/2013 23:45

Wasn't listening today but imo she is a fab broadcaster, just saying

Harriet35 · 29/01/2013 23:45

She should just woman up and get over it. It's only a mouse, it can't hurt her. HOW WOULD SHE GET ON IF ARMED GUERILLAS STORMED THE STUDIO as regularly happens in many countries radio stations?

OP posts:
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 29/01/2013 23:47

Oh, FFS, what are the chances of armed raiders of any sort breaking into the Beeb? You're being silly now.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 29/01/2013 23:48

And she might not be phobic about them anyway. Just, y'know, scared.

MmeLindor · 29/01/2013 23:48

Harriet
Get a grip, would you. How on earth do you get from a mouse to armed guerrillas attacking the BBC?

She was frightened of the mouse. I found it funny and endearing, and followed her on Twitter because of it.

TheLateMrPamuk · 29/01/2013 23:49

It is making me want to puke just reading about it so if she feels the same as me about those things then I feel sorry for her.
Honestly it is my idea of hell I can't even look at pictures of them without feeling sick. And I don't know how it started I've just always been terrified. I managed to get up a bunk bed ladder at 9 months pg in ten seconds flat after dp said one had just ran across the floor. ( bleurghhh)

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 29/01/2013 23:51

Over-reaction of the century, she shouldn't be scared of a mouse because other people have armed guerrillas storming their studios.

Are you not scared of anything OP?

Narked · 29/01/2013 23:51

Probably fine if they didn't bring mice with them.

Do get a grip.

Harriet35 · 29/01/2013 23:52

I would be scared of Armed Guerillas! Or armed gorillas for that matter! And other animals that could hurt me like crocodiles or tigers. Not mice.

OP posts:
TheLateMrPamuk · 29/01/2013 23:54

Oh and I've stood up to a huge group of thugs trying to batter someone with a bat and didn't flinch much they backed off. If they had brought a mouse with them I would have ran and left their poor victim to fend for themselves.

She should do something to get over her fear of mice. Maybe the BBC could make her lie in a bath of mice for comic relief.

Why didn't you just put some poison down? Or get the exterminators in?
