I like it - it's grown on me Smile

FlouncingMintyy · 29/01/2013 18:27

Ooooh, did you hate it at first?

Grown on me too. As has the Bowie single which I thought was dire when I first heard it.

PseudoBadger · 29/01/2013 18:31

It sounds exactly like Embarrasment! I hated it but can just about listen to it now.

FlouncingMintyy · 29/01/2013 18:32

Noooooooooo!

(but agree I can sort of find something to like in the Bowie one, but only just).

If you wrote out the lyrics of the Madness song it would look like something my dd wrote in her Year 1 poetry class.

Do you know what bugs me? He says "I never knew your name, or your telephone number" - and then later says something like "I wanted to call out your name". Well that doesn't add up!

Devora · 29/01/2013 22:26

Madness have always been a bit rubbish Smile

FlouncingMintyy · 29/01/2013 23:48

No! Madness have always been a bit great, hence disappointment at abysmal/dire/awful current effort!

Massive were great, I haven't heard this new single though. They are probably a bit old now.

garageflower · 30/01/2013 00:04

I thought I would like it, had the essence of 'Something Changed' by Pulp. Then it said that they'd talked all night and he had never asked what her name or number was or something and it became unrelatable. Twee.

FlouncingMintyy · 30/01/2013 00:18

Agreed, twee. And lazy. And feeble.

I heard it this morning... not for me although I'm a Madness fan and bloody love Suggs too. It's like they've softened, moved too far away from themselves somehow? Anyway, I agree with you...

Harriet35 · 30/01/2013 00:36

They're all in their 50s now, they were in their late teens early 20s when the band was first big. It's understandable that they've changed a bit! But I think they're appeal was based a lot on them being energetic crazy young guys and now that's been lost.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 30/01/2013 00:41

It does have a classic old Madness sound about it, I think that's why I like it though. I do cringe a little bit when he says 'discoteque' but then 'club' wouldn't fit in with the tune Smile

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/01/2013 00:48

yy Harriet... I couldn't imagine them on TOTP now even if it was still going... they'd do dad dancing... Shock

bumhead · 30/01/2013 07:25

I think there is something very disturbing about a bunch of bloated 50 something blokes, wheezing about on a stage, attempting to delude people into thinking they are still cutting edge.
Years ago a good friend of mine who was a HUGE Madness fan was at a party and Suggs was there.
He begged to be introduced to his hero and when he was, Suggs looked him up and down and asked the indroducee (not a real word I know) "Who is this fat bastard?" and turned to talk to someone else.
My friend (male) was absolutely crushed.
I can't stand Suggs based on this very story. He is hardly a stranger to being a lard-arse himself.
Anyway if I had talked all night to a man and he hadn't bothered to ask me my name and number, I would think he didn't deserve it! Grin
